About the Position
Under the direction of the Recreation Manager - Sports and Summer Youth Program, the Recreation Coordinator of Intramurals and Reservations is responsible for the coordination, management, and daily operations of Intramural Sports and facility / field reservations for Campus Recreation spaces. This position oversees the planning and execution of sport leagues, tournaments, and sports special events; manages facility and field reservations for internal and external groups; and ensures efficient scheduling, customer service, and risk management practices across all activities. The coordinator directly supervises student employees, sport officials, and reservation staff. This position plays an essential role in advancing Campus Recreation's mission to promote wellness, student engagement, and community connection through inclusive and innovative recreation opportunities.
Responsibilities Include
45% - Program Management
- Develop, revise, and implement program policies and procedures, assessments, goals and objectives for an Intramural Sports program that is on the leading edge of national and peer institution trends while maintaining compliance with regulations.
- Provide overall management of direction of an Intramural Sports program that includes evening and weekend supervision of sports leagues, tournaments, and special events.
- Schedule and manage leagues, tournaments and events, schedule officials and supervisors, and prepare game management equipment and materials.
- Maintain program records, including results, standings, sportsmanship points, eligibility records, and participant waivers.
- Develop, revise, and implement sport rules, captain's meetings, and keep an updated Intramural Sports Participant Handbook.
- Adhere to program budget; create annual sports calendar and work to expand Unified and Adaptive sport opportunities.
- Actively seek opportunities to maximize student participation by identifying national recreation trends with the intent of remaining a leader among peer institutions.
- Remain updated with current NIRSA and NFHS rules; review and modify playing rules for sports as needed to fit campus community.
- Foster partnerships with outside departments and agencies to enhance program quality and opportunities for staff and participants.
- Assist in developing comprehensive risk management policies and procedures for all intramural sports.
- Develop, implement, and train staff in comprehensive risk management procedures for all sport and event operations.
- Ensure compliance with university, state, and national recreation safety standards.
- Maintain certifications and ensure all staff are trained in First Aid, CPR, and emergency procedures.
- Coordinate incident reporting and follow-up procedures for intramural, facility, and event incidents.
- Ensure all staff are up to date on required safety certifications.
35% - Facility Reservations
Coordinate and schedule all facility and field reservation requests for Campus Recreation spaces using the Event Management System (EMS).Prioritize reservations among internal programs, academic classes, student organizations, and external rentals.Process Facility Use Agreements, invoices, and payments in collaboration with administrative staff.Provide customer service and logistical support for all Campus Recreation events.Collaborate with NAU summer camps and conferencing department for summer camp group reservations.Oversee event setup, staffing, and teardown; ensure facilities are restored to standard conditions post-event.Supervise student event staff and manage shift coverage using scheduling software (e.g., WhenToWork).15% - Personnel Management
