Job descriptionWorks within clearly defined standard operating procedures and / or scientific methods and adheres to quality guidelines Works with close supervision Performs manual tasks according to established procedures Assists with the installation, operation, testing, and adjustment of various types of conventional or automatic machines used to produce precision parts and instruments. Fabricates and modifies parts to make or repair machine tools or maintain industrial machines, applying knowledge of mechanics, shop mathematics, metal properties, layout, and machining procedures. Machines parts to specifications using machine tools such as lathes, milling machines, shapers, or grinders. Measures, examines, and tests completed units in order to detect defects and ensure conformance to specifications. \n Required education and experience : Vocational / Technical Training Degree and 1-2 years' experience OR Equivalent Combination of Relevant Education & / or Experience \n Preferred education : Associate's Degree \n Discipline / Major : Technical training preferred \n Knowledge, skills & abilities : Mathematical skills. Technical expertise. Manual dexterity. Physical Stamina. Ability to stand for long periods of time. Leadership skills. \n Experience : Proven work experience as a Precision Machinist or in a similar role within a manufacturing setting. \n Technical Proficiency : Strong understanding of machining processes and the ability to operate and maintain various types of machine tools. Requires regular movement throughout GD-OTS facilities. Must be able to lift up to 45 pounds. May need to stand for long periods of time. Work may require employee to work inside and outside with exposure to changing climate and / or operate machinery. May be requested to work a different shift. Must be willing to work outside normal business hours as required. This position is Safety-Sensitive.

Job Summary
Responsible for fabricating, modifying, and repairing mechanical instruments and assemblies using precision tools and machinery to produce high-quality parts according to specifications. Interpret blueprints, monitor operations, inspect product, problem solve, accurate recordkeeping. Participate in continuous improvement initiatives.
