At Mad Science of DC, our mission is to show kids how amazing science can be! We’re looking for a talented Operations Manager for our team. In this role, you'll lead our talented group of Mad Scientists, while interviewing and hiring additions, who make science fun as they build and fly rockets, demonstrate lasers, teach children about dinosaurs, and much more! You will help support the next generation of scientists through our innovative activities that show kids what science is really all about. You’ll be supported by a dedicated team that cares about the work they do and the children they reach.
Mad Science is the leading provider of fun science programs for elementary-aged children in the world.
What will you do? We’re a small business with a big reach, who works with over 100 schools and 20,000 kids per year. In this role, you’ll be responsible for :
External Staff
- Supervises and manages all programming staff, i.e. Senior Instructors, Zone Coordinators, and After School Program instructors (32+) & Camp Instructors (100+)
- Leads orientation and supports training
- Quality control of instructors
- Works with operations team on staff performance
Recruiting & hiring
Placing and monitoring ads, setting up Zoom interviews, interviewing, hiring, and onboardingSets up trainings and leads summer camp counselor orientationsPlacing and assigning staffQuality oversight of after school and camp staffOffice Staff
Takes the lead in continuing our long history of having a positive and fun office cultureWorking with the owner to track employee performanceProduces any extracurricular activities (holiday party, events etc..)Customer support
In conjunction with owner, dealing with any children / parents / schools with problems and emergenciesQuality control of programmingWhen sales team is busy, able to take customer calls and assist as neededOther tasks
Counsels employeesMakes sure background checks are done and up-to-dateEnsures policies are compliant and up-to-dateCompensation
The pay range of $90,000-$110,000 is based largely on years of experience in a managerial role (minimum of five)Invitation into company retirement program, with match, after a set period, as well as ROTH IRAPaid vacation (10 days), holidays (10 days), and sick leave (5 days) per year60% of company health insurance premium paid by employerHours
During the school year (late August thru mid / late June) : Monday-Friday, 9 : 00-5 : 00 pmDuring summer (ten weeks from mid / late June thru late August) : 8 : 00-4 : 00 pm and able to handle after hour emergency schedule changesOverall : This is an amazing opportunity for someone with the right skills and looking for a future with an amazing company.
