Work on-site at PAFB and mission temporary duty locations providing operational and tactical inputs to 45th Space Wing Det 3, regarding fire, HAZMAT and Incident Commander operations to facilitate Orion recovery operations at sea and at Naval Base San Diego. Includes rescue and recovery of astronauts, Commercial Crew Program (CCP) vehicles and Orion crew vehicle during nominal end-of-mission and contingency efforts.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to :
- Ability to manage, coordinate, and execute support regarding updates to NASA concept of operations along with support equipment and associated procedures regarding crew module contingencies that occur at sea, on-board the recovery ship, or at Naval Base San Diego.
- Ability to prepare and evaluate Management Plans (PMP) and Concept of Operations (ConOps) in order to identify recovery ship HAZMAT countermeasures, personal protective equipment, and personnel training necessary for mission unique hazards.
- Capable of Developing goals, objectives, and measures of performance for development tests for recovery of the astronauts and the Commercial Crew Program (CCP) and NASA Orion Program vehicles, includes planning, training, and mission execution efforts.
- Ability to travel for NASA / DoD technical interchange meetings, procedure development activities, and test activities. Ability to develop HAZMAT and Fire prevention and protection written courseware, presentations, procedures, and checklists used to provide mission-specific training / orientation for recovery ship personnel and medical staff.
- Ability to revise current tactics, techniques, and procedures pertaining to fire, HAZAMT, and Incident response actions, aircraft egress, occupational health and safety assessments / implementation including development and execution of training programs including support equipment based on mission-unique requirements
Education and Previous Work Requirements :
BS Mechanical, Electrical, or Aeronautical Engineering, or Associate Degree, High School Diploma, or GED Equivalent of a High School Diploma, and over fifteen plus (15+) years of related experience.Experience with Fire, HAZMAT, and Incident Commander Operations support. Demonstrated experience (3-5 years) and expert knowledge of HAZMAT Incident Command, aircraft egress, occupational health and safety assessments / implementation and development and management of training programs.Must possess the following DoD certifications (or equivalent) DoD HAZMAT Incident Command, Fire Officer III, Fire Instructor III, and Airport Fire Fighter.Former Military desiredARES Benefits :
