Position Summary

Allan Hancock College is a California public community college located in northern Santa Barbara County. The college is ranked as one of the five best community colleges in California and one of the top 120 community colleges in the nation. This is a full-time, 175-day (10-month annual contract) tenure-track faculty position in the Life & Physical Sciences Department. The successful applicant will teach a range of pre-transfer veterinary courses to students with a variety of educational experiences and goals; participate in program review and curriculum development; review and revise content of course(s) as necessary; maintain five (5) required office hours per week for student consultation; participate in department and college activities; maintain class and examination schedules as well as grade and attendance records according to college regulations; and perform related tasks as required.

Instructors in the program must have knowledge and expertise in the topics they teach and promote the appropriate role of the veterinary technician in the veterinary health care team. Instructional duties must not violate local, state, or federal laws regarding the practice of veterinary medicine. The assignment may include teaching weekday evenings.

Desired Qualifications

Apply current theories and practices of Veterinary Technology in the classroom including the integration of reading, writing, and critical thinking.

Use multimedia technology and digital technologies in classroom and online instruction.

Apply evaluation and assessment methods including student learning outcomes that lead to student, course, and program improvements.

Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships.

Teaching strategies that address the needs of students with a variety of learning styles, skills, motivation, and educational goals.

Collaborating with faculty and campus staff in developing and implementing programs or initiatives designed to help historically underrepresented, first generation, and marginalized students achieve their educational goals.

Minimum Qualifications

A Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree from an AVMA accredited program with a minimum of 3 years of clinical practice or currently licensed Registered Veterinary Technician with a Bachelor of Science degree and a minimum of 3 years of clinical practice in California.

Must hold an active license in the State of California.

The professional experience required must be directly related to the faculty member's teaching assignment. Additional Information

The Hiring salary range is $57,858 to $82,391 dependent upon education and experience.
