Job Title : Nephrologist – On-Call Services

Job Overview :
This role requires providing on-call and call-back in-house nephrology coverage for a Level III Trauma Center. The Nephrologist will deliver consultative services for inpatient critical and acute care patients, support family medicine residency training, and participate in clinical research and education. Coverage is scheduled in advance, typically in increments from 1 to 7 days.
Key Duties & Responsibilities :
- Provide inpatient and outpatient nephrology consultative services, including emergency dialysis and acute care management.
- Manage urgent outpatient nephrology issues and coordinate care with full-time nephrology staff.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, including Emergency Department and Intensive Care Unit.
- Ensure compliance with all applicable laws, policies, and regulations.
- Participate in medical staff committees and quality improvement initiatives.
- Supervise and educate family medicine residents and house staff.
- Maintain clear communication with attending providers regarding patient management.
- Participate in performance improvement and trauma programs.
- Provide consultations on :
- Fluid, electrolyte, and acid / base disorders
- Acute and chronic kidney injury / disease
- Inpatient dialysis modalities (chronic intermittent, acute intermittent, continuous)
- Dialysis access assessment and management
- Peritoneal dialysis management and complications
- Coordinate care with outpatient units, transplant centers, and other healthcare agencies.
- Perform bedside placement of temporary hemodialysis catheters using ultrasound.
- Maintain clinical competency and ensure thorough, timely documentation and proper coding.
- Protect patient privacy and comply with confidentiality regulations.
Degree / Education :
M.D. or D.O. from an accredited medical school in the U.S., Canada, or equivalent foreign institution with recognized certification (e.g., ECFMG).Completion of an ABIM-recognized Internal Medicine residency.Completion of an accredited Nephrology fellowship (mandatory).Board Certification :
Current board certification or board-eligible status in Nephrology by the American Board of Internal Medicine or American Osteopathic Board of Internal Medicine.Valid unrestricted medical license in the state of Nevada.Experience :
Minimum 24 months practicing Nephrology or in accredited training within the last 36 months.Experience in inpatient and outpatient nephrology, including chronic dialysis patient management.
