Thrift Store Manager

Schedule / Hours : Full-time

This position is responsible for : plans, supervises, monitors, and evaluates the day-to-day operations of Thrift Stores; plans, supervises, and monitors work of all Thrift Store personnel ensuring compliance with established policies and procedures as well as budget constraints; plans, supervises, and evaluates the layout and display of Thrift Store merchandise to generate maximum financial return; supervises processing of merchandise in the warehouse to ensure that items reach store floors in a timely manner; plans and supervises the rotation and re-arranging of stock; prepares and monitors sales, statistical and financial reports. Interacts with the community, as required, to encourage donations and sales and communicate the mission of The Salvation Army in the service area.

Key Responsibilities :

  • Plans, schedules, assigns, and supervises the work of subordinate personnel (Store clerks, as well as volunteers, program participants, or court-appointed workers); trains and instructs employees in the proper methods and procedures; monitors work in progress and upon completion to ensure accuracy, completeness, and compliance with established policies and procedures; conducts performance evaluations and provides salary and hiring / firing recommendations.
  • Supervises and monitors the receiving, sorting, pricing, and distribution of donated items in the warehouse; ensures that items are processed in a timely manner and in compliance with established policies and procedures.
  • Works with Commanding Officers to plans, prepares, and administers the Thrift Store budget; reviews, monitors and approves expenditures associated with the thrift stores to ensure compliance with budget constraints; monitors incoming funds to ensure compliance with budget projections.

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions :

Ability to meet attendance requirements.

Ability to effectively read, write, and communicate the English language.

Ability to perform mathematical computations as related to store management. Ability to perform frequent walking and / or standing, kneeling, or squatting relieved by lesser periods of sitting or operating a vehicle. Ability to lift and carry and / or push / pull medium weight objects (less than 50 lbs.)

Work is performed in a normal store environment where there are little or no physical discomforts associated with changes in weather.

  • What We Are Looking For In You :

  • High School diploma or G.E.D. AND
  • Four years progressively responsible experience in retail / thrift sales management with at least two years experience in a supervisory capacity, OR
  • Any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
