Applicants must be comfortable working in both intensive care and progressive care unit settings. Patient ratios are typically 1 : 2 for ICU and 1 : 3-4 for progressive care, although the latter is rare. The volume of patients includes those recovering from cardiovascular and thoracic surgeries. Specific patient populations include CABG, TAVR, SAVR, MVR, and VATS. Additional unit responsibility entails managing patients with varied acuity, including med / surg and oncology cases. Candidates need to demonstrate skills in interpretation and management of dysrhythmias. Experience in post-cardiac surgery care is essential. Qualified applicants should be capable of arterial line management and blood product administration. Knowledge of central line management and venous access procedures is required. The role involves titrating cardiac and vasoactive drips. Preferred skills include experience with intra-aortic balloon pumps, postoperative care, and sheath removal. Ventilator management and care of ventilated patients are necessary competencies. Accepting candidates will be required to work every other weekend. Flexibility with block scheduling will be considered during discussions. Minor floating within the facility is expected based on patient care needs. All travelers will be required to float to nearby affiliate hospitals as necessary. Cohesive interdisciplinary support includes teams from physical therapy, respiratory services, pharmacy, and social services. A high level of teamwork and communication skills is essential for success in this role. This position involves direct patient care and potentially complex case management. Candidates must be prepared to work 2 out of 3 major holidays. Work environment is a fast-paced, critical care setting with a focus on patient outcomes and quality care.
