Position Summary :

Shelter Attendants support 24 / 7 emergency shelter operations during cold weather activation events, declared emergencies, and other sheltering needs as directed by Bayaud. This role ensures a safe, clean, and welcoming environment for guests experiencing homelessness. Attendants provide direct assistance to guests, maintain facility operations, and uphold Bayaud Works' mission of compassionate, trauma-informed, and equitable service delivery.

Compensation : $23.00 per hour

Job Location : Various shelter sites throughout Metro Denver

Reports to : Project Manager / Shelter Lead

Travel Requirements : to various shelter sites throughout Metro Denver

Mission of Role :

Bayaud Works provides critical services and expertise in short- and long-term homeless sheltering, cold weather sheltering, and janitorial and workforce support services. General Tasks, Duties, and Responsibilities :

  • Provide welcoming, respectful, and trauma-informed support to shelter guests.
  • Monitor guest interactions, ensure safety, and provide conflict de-escalation as needed.
  • Conduct guest check-in / check-out, including bed assignments, bag-and-tag of personal belongings, and guest logs in alignment with Bayaud's reporting standards.
  • Distribute meals, linens, hygiene supplies, and other shelter resources.
  • Maintain cleanliness of sleeping areas, bathrooms, common areas, and outdoor spaces.
  • Assist with set-up and tear-down of shelter operations during activation and demobilization.
  • Ensure compliance with Bayaud Shelter Standards, including sensitivity training completion and reporting requirements.
  • Document incidents, safety concerns, and guest violations, escalating to the Shelter Lead / Project Manager as appropriate.
  • Participate in required trainings (TIC, MHFA, CPR, DEI, Conflict Resolution, etc.) and complete HOST-required sensitivity training within 15 days of hire.
  • Collaborate with City staff, law enforcement, and community partners in a professional manner.
  • Maintain confidentiality of guest information per federal, state, and agency guidelines.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned to ensure smooth shelter operations.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities :

  • Commitment to equity, inclusion, and trauma-informed care.
  • Ability to remain calm, compassionate, and professional in high-stress situations.
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, and conflict-resolution skills.
  • Comfort working with diverse and vulnerable populations, including individuals experiencing homelessness, migrants, and those with mental health or substance use challenges.
  • Ability to follow procedures for safety, documentation, and reporting.
  • Flexibility to work variable shifts, including overnights, weekends, and holidays.
  • Expected Hours of Work :

    Ability to work within the schedule- Sunday – Saturday, 24 / 7 operations (days, evenings, overnights, weekends, holidays)

    Physical Demands :

  • Regularly required to sit, stand, walk, speak, and hear.
  • Frequently required to lift / move up to 50 pounds.
  • Must be comfortable working in unpredictable and sometimes stressful environments, including outdoor exposure during shelter operations.

  • Education and Experience Required :

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Preferred Qualifications :

  • Prior experience in shelter services, human services, security, or related fields preferred.
  • Experience with at-risk, vulnerable, or homeless populations strongly preferred.
  • Additional Qualifications :

  • Ability to pass background check for work with vulnerable populations.
  • Completion of HOST-mandated trainings and Bayaud Works orientation within required timeframes.
