This unit supports a variety of patients, including those with conditions such as CHF, dysrhythmias, chest pain, strokes, abdominal illnesses, infections, respiratory illnesses, diabetes, acute kidney injury / chronic kidney disease, alcohol withdrawal, and intravenous drug abuse. The typical patient-to-nurse ratio is 1 : 4, with the possibility of 1 : 5 depending on patient acuity. The ideal candidate will have experience in crucial nursing skills, including tracheostomies and cardiac medication management. Support staff includes a charge nurse, CNAs for activities of daily living, and access to a dedicated phlebotomy team. The unit operates with 24 / 7 hospitalists and intensivists and utilizes telemetry monitoring. Traveling nurses should be prepared to float to other facilities within the designated region and will be compensated for travel time if floating occurs mid-shift. Weekend rotations will be required every other week, with holiday expectations of working 75% of holidays. Travelers are allowed up to six days off, excluding holidays, and must plan to extend their contract if unable to fulfill the required hours. The unit culture is family-oriented. Scrub color will be navy.
