Job Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Cardiac Telemetry unit in an acute care setting with 12-hour night shifts and telemetry experience required.
Responsibilities
Work in a 43-bed Cardiac Telemetry unit within an acute care hospitalPatient population includes post-heart catheterization, CHF, COPD, post-pacemaker (no external pacers), arrhythmias, and those awaiting CABG consultTypical nurse to patient ratios are 1 : 5, with flex up to 1 : 6Unit is equipped with telemetry monitoring and a central monitor station staffed by monitor techsRNs are required to work 12-hour night shifts, including every other weekend as scheduledFloating may occur to other units within the hospital including ICU and Stepdown but within RN’s skillsetSelf-scheduling is available; block scheduling considered if unit needs allowUnit uses Epic EMR; Epic experience is preferred but not requiredResponsibilities include admissions, discharges, reading telemetry strips, titrating Heparin, and occasional Lasix or Bumex dripsRNs are supported by PCTs, charge nurses, and a unit clerk; teamwork is emphasizedRapid, high-volume environment with 8-12 admissions and discharges per dayOne-day computer training and one-day unit orientation with a preceptor provided before independent assignmentRoyal blue scrubs are required; if a jacket is worn, it must be a scrub jacket—no hoodies or sweatshirtsCall or standby is rare but possible if census is lowHoliday coverage may be required depending on unit needsFirst time travelers are welcome; the unit is used to training and supporting new team membersRequirements
Active WV or Compact RN license required for considerationMinimum of 2 years of recent cardiac telemetry experience requiredCertifications required : BLS (AHA) and ACLS (AHA)Must be able to interpret cardiac strips and perform or assist with EKGsExperience with titrating Heparin drips is requiredCOVID-19 vaccination required unless medical or religious exemption is approvedA copy of an unexpired driver’s license must be providedEpic charting experience preferredNo BSN requiredMust live at least 50 miles from the facility; local travelers are not acceptedCannot be a recent employee at any WVU Medicine location within the past 2 years; cumulative WVU traveler experience must not exceed one year before a two-year breakBenefits
