Position Overview
The Principal Architect is responsible for leading the design, implementation, and optimization of ServiceNow solutions within a telecommunications environment. This role will drive the architectural vision and roadmap, ensuring alignment with business objectives, industry best practices, and emerging technologies. The ideal candidate has deep ServiceNow platform expertise, extensive telecom experience, and strong leadership capabilities.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and maintain the enterprise-wide ServiceNow architecture strategy tailored for telecom operations, including ITSM, ITOM, CSM, and custom modules.
- Serve as the primary technical authority for ServiceNow initiatives, guiding design, configuration, integration, and deployment activities.
- Collaborate with business stakeholders, IT leaders, and cross-functional teams to capture requirements and translate them into scalable ServiceNow solutions.
- Lead architectural reviews, solution design sessions, and technical workshops to ensure best practices and telecom-specific compliance.
- Oversee complex integrations between ServiceNow and telecom OSS / BSS systems, network management platforms, and external applications.
- Mentor and provide technical oversight to ServiceNow developers, administrators, and project teams.
- Establish and enforce governance frameworks for platform development, customization, and maintenance.
- Stay current on ServiceNow releases, telecom industry trends, and emerging technologies to drive continuous innovation.
- Support pre-sales activities and solution presentations for prospective telecom clients or internal stakeholders.
Qualifications
10+ years of IT experience, with 5+ years architecting and implementing ServiceNow solutions.Proven experience in the telecommunications industry, with understanding of OSS / BSS, network management, and telecom business processes.ServiceNow Certified Technical Architect (CTA) or similar advanced certifications preferred.Expert-level knowledge of ServiceNow platform modules (ITSM, ITOM, CSM, HRSD, etc.) and scripting (JavaScript, Glide).Strong background in designing integrations with third-party systems using APIs, web services, and middleware.Demonstrated ability to lead and mentor technical teams, manage multiple projects, and communicate effectively with senior leadership.Excellent problem-solving skills, strategic thinking, and the ability to translate business needs into technical solutions.Experience with Agile methodologies and DevOps practices is a plus.Desired Skills
Telecom-specific ServiceNow solution design (e.g., order management, network provisioning, incident and change management for telecom).Knowledge of regulatory and compliance requirements in the telecom sector.Strong presentation, negotiation, and stakeholder management skills.Ability to drive platform adoption and change management initiatives.Work Environment
This role may require occasional travel to client sites or company offices.
Salary and Other Compensation

The annual salary for this position is between $100,000 - $150,000 depending on experience and other qualifications of the successful candidate.
This position is also eligible for Cognizant’s discretionary annual incentive program, based on performance and subject to the terms of Cognizant’s applicable plans.
