Description :

This position is for a Stepdown RN.

Nurse-patient ratios are 1 : 4-5.

Common diagnoses include sepsis, STEMI, CHF, chest pain, COVID, stroke, renal failure, COPD, and DKA.

The unit handles complex medical issues, including multisystem failure.

RNs are required to titrate drips, including heparin, amiodarone, and cardizem.

Charge nurses are present on each shift and do take an assignment.

Certified nursing assistants are available with a 1 : 10 ratio, depending on the unit census.

Respiratory equipment used includes BiPAP and Airvo.

RNs must read and interpret telemetry strips.

Shifts are from 0630-1900 and 1830-0700.

A unit scheduler will create the travel schedule.

Every other weekend and holiday shifts are required.

Floating to other units may occur.

Dress code for RNs is navy blue scrubs.

The first week includes classroom training, followed by shifts on the floor.

The unit experiences a busy patient flow with frequent admissions and discharges.

Attributes for success include a friendly demeanor, engagement in bedside reporting, and hourly rounding.

RTO needed upfront, with limited additional requests approved.

The hospital has a cancellation policy that allows up to four shifts to be canceled during the assignment.

Charting is done using an electronic system.
