As a Collections Supervisor, you'll join a collaborative team ensuring that our clients can deliver their services uninterrupted. Based in Hoboken, New Jersey, you'll have the opportunity to manage the operation and maintenance of the collection system, and all essential components as outlined in the contract.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Plans, coordinates, and directs the maintenance, operations, and repair of wastewater collection systems including pump stations, solids and floatables facilities, sewer and catch basin cleaning, vehicles, and other components associated with our system.

Familiar with operations of a combined sewer system, managing combined sewer overflows (CSO's), and reporting to NJDEP.

Supervises field and shop operations, and coordinates field work with other departments.

Supervises the maintenance of work records and certifies field repair logs, if needed.

Manages the CMMS system to ensure work is completed on time, and maintenance activities are properly documented.

Prepares comprehensive progress and work reports and time and cost reports as required.

Consults with subordinates on matters of workloads, requests, records and reports, and priority assignments. Develops work programs and budget estimates for the department.

Plans, assigns, supervises, and evaluates the work of staff; assists with the hiring and training of new employees.

Requisitions material, tools, equipment, and contractors, as needed, for the operation, maintenance, and repair of the collection facilities; Supervises and directs contractors and crews; Reviews and approves invoices for payment.

Establishes safety precautions against occupational hazards. Understands traffic control measures for field work.

Receives and investigates complaints and requests from the public regarding sewer service. Diagnoses operating problems and directs effective corrective procedures.

Performs related work and other duties as required.

Performs inspections of storm water detention systems and FOG systems (Fats Oils, and Grease).

Performs emergency response duties as necessary, which also includes communications with customers and the public agencies.

Familiar with CCTV inspections and reporting, and sewer improvement projects.

Prepare monthly projects for outside contractor for repair of manholes, catch basins. And other horizontal assets in the collection system.

Review and prepare monthly payment applications submitted by contractors for repairs performed in the collection system.

Prepare and submit monthly DMRs reporting CSO activity in the combined sewer system.

Respond to concerns raised by local officials and direct responses by directing on call personnel both during work hours as well as after hours and weekends.

Assist in the review of applications for new sewer connections.

Inspect installation of new sewer connections and stormwater retention systems.

Coordinate the inclusion of new information into the GIS mapping including new construction of collection system facilities and information regarding rehabilitated sewer mains and new CCTV inspection video.

Prepare monthly collection system activities report for the Authority's board meetings including responses to customer concerns, sewer main and catch basin cleaning progress.

Level 4 NJDEP Wastewater Collections System Operator License, or ability to obtain the level 4 license within 1 year.

5 to 7 years of experience in the construction, maintenance and operation of collections and distribution systems

New Jersey Class B Commercial Driver's License

Ideally, here's what you will also have :

High school diploma or GED

Excellent ability to multi-task, provide timely responses, and coordinate field work.

PACP Certification or ability to obtain the certification within 1 year.

Understanding of ArcGIS and data management.

Basic electrical / mechanical knowledge involved in working on pump, motors, pump station controls, SCADA, and other equipment such as high velocity sewer cleaning equipment, power rodding, or other equipment used in removing debris from sewer pipe, and related equipment including line cleaning, TV inspection, and vactor truck and clam truck operation.

Knowledge of safe work practices, supervisory training, principles of budget preparation and expenditure control and federal and state laws as they pertain to the water / wastewater industry.

The work areas may be indoor, outdoor, have loud noise, active machinery, high pressure fluid systems, electrical equipment, confined spaces, heights and depths, fumes, air borne particles, noxious gases, and chemicals. The use of appropriate safety equipment will be mandatory in these areas to prevent hazardous contact.

The base salary range for this position is $100,000.00 to $125,000.00. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.
