Now seeking a full time Interventional Radiology Technologist at Naval Medical Center Portsmouth, VA.
Details and Tasks : The duties include, but are not limited to the following :
- Adhere to radiation safety policies and procedures in accordance with Radiology Department standard operating procedures (SOP).
- Arrive, depart, and log completed patients in the command’s hospital information system (CHCS). Send appropriate image series to the radiologist for reading via the PACS according to department protocol.
- Receive patients and explain procedures providing humane and appropriate care and communication to alleviate fear of the examination. Correctly position the patient for the examination and make technical adjustments necessary for the required examination. Determine if any special patient preparation is required.
- Process digital images and submit for interpretation by radiologists.
- Document all procedures and maintain records in accordance with the SOP manual for the department.
Assist in coordinating schedules, daily logs, and data submission for monthly reports.
Perform Acute Care diagnostic studies and procedures. These studies shall include all variances of extremities, chest, abdomen and head.Research, develop, and formulate new techniques for routine diagnostic procedures as required for performing emergent types of examinations.Perform system calibrations and quality control tasks according to the manufacturer and command instructions daily. Recognize artifacts and equipment errors and notify designated Government personnel of outlying values.Initiate repair call procedures for equipment malfunctions by notifying designated Government personnel. Report problems to the Biomedical Repair Section and record the problem condition in the trouble call logbook.Observe and report to the radiologist any symptoms which have direct bearing on the patient's condition as a result of adverse reaction to contrast media and inform the radiologist of any condition requiring his / her attention. Recognize the need for and institute the necessary emergency measures for situations where a person requires resuscitation procedures due to cardiac or respiratory arrest.Work Schedule :
Monday - Saturday, 8 hour shifts between 7 : 00 and 7 : 00pm (not to exceed 40 hrs / week)
Work schedule dependent upon clinic
Requirements
Minimum Qualifications :
Education : Graduate from an academic program accredited by the Joint Review Committee on Education in Radiologic Technology (JRCERT).
Experience : Possess one (1) year full-time experience as a diagnostic radiologic technologist within the preceding two (2) years, to include experience with digital imaging.
Licensure : Must be ARRT certified by the American Registry of Radiologic Technology (ARRT)
Life Support Certifications : Basic Life Support (BLS) from AHA or ARC
Security : Must be able to pass a Government background check and obtain a Government security clearance.
