WestCoast Children's Clinic, located in Oakland, California, is a non-profit community psychology clinic that provides mental health services to Bay Area children, youth and families. Working at WestCoast Children's Clinic means being part of an organization that is client-centered, trauma-informed, collaborative, and committed to justice and equity.

The Clinical Supervisor plays a key role in the EMPOWR (EMbracing Progress and Opportunities, We Rise) program at WestCoast Children's Clinic, overseeing a team of licensed clinicians (MSWs, MFTs, and interns) within our team-based model of care. The EMPOWR program supports transition-aged youth (TAY), ages 16-24, in achieving mental health stability, housing security, employment, education, and community connections.

Each of the two teams in the program consists of three clinicians, two case managers, and two intensive care coordinators, who collaborate on a shared caseload of up to 70 participants. As the Clinical Supervisor, you will guide the team in providing trauma-informed, client-centered collaborative care while supporting staff skill development and professional growth.

In addition to supervision, the Clinical Supervisor ensures clinical compliance with certification, billing, and documentation standards and collaborates with EMPOWR Program Directors to address policies, procedures, and training needs. This position offers the opportunity to lead a dynamic team making a meaningful impact on the lives of youth in need.

About EMPOWR

Our Team-Based model of care program named EMPOWR (EMbracing, Progress and Opportunities, We Rise) is a program aiming to support transition aged youth (TAY) with foster care experience attain mental health support, housing stability, employment and education gains, and community connections. This program provides community-based therapy, case management and care coordination, and peer and family support through a team-based model. The whole team collaborates on the whole caseload, providing youth with an entire team of support, and allowing staff to share in the successes and challenges of their clients.

Responsibilities :

  • Provide direct, individual supervision for clinicians, including MSWs, MFTs, interns and other mental health professionals as needed
  • Review and approve relevant clinical documentation for the provider team, ensuring compliance with WCC standards.
  • Offer ongoing, regular feedback on the quality and timeliness of staff work and caseload management, and solicit feedback from staff regarding supervision effectiveness.
  • Provide direct client services as needed to address gaps in care.
  • Complete 90-day and annual performance evaluations for supervisees.
  • Consult with Program Director(s) on client issues where crossover care coordination is necessary and ensure timely communication.
  • Ensure staff compliance with all legal and ethical practices; co-sign progress notes, clinical forms, and correspondence as a legal representative of WCC.
  • Facilitate weekly group case conferences as required.
  • Participate in WCC meetings, EMPOWR program meetings, team-building activities, care coordination meetings, community gatherings, and training as required.
  • Adhere to supervisor requirements as outlined by WestCoast policies, Board of Psychology, Board of Behavioral Sciences, and the California Medical Board rules and regulations.
  • Identify and communicate training needs to the Program Director.
  • Support and train staff to meet service delivery expectations, including caseload management, charting, record-keeping, and documentation standards.
  • Assist supervisees in setting and tracking progress toward professional development goals.
  • Help foster a cohesive, healthy team environment, ensuring alignment with the team-based model of care.

Qualifications :

  • CA Licensed Psychologist, MFT, or LCSW (preferred), with 3+ years post-licensure experience preferred.
  • 2+ years of experience supervising clinical work, particularly with adolescents and young adults facing high levels of trauma and mental health challenges.
  • Demonstrated experience providing and / or supervising community-based mental health treatment, including therapy, case management, individual rehabilitation, or Intensive Care Coordination (ICC).
  • Competencies (skills, abilities & knowledge) :

  • In-depth knowledge of child and adolescent development, trauma, chemical dependency, dual diagnosis, domestic violence, and sexually exploited minors.
  • Competency in addressing psychological issues related to race, ethnicity, class, gender, and sexual orientation.
  • Proficient in supervising mental health services in a team-based model, especially for children, youth, and families facing complex trauma.
  • Proven ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a multidisciplinary team, ensuring effective service delivery and staff training.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage time and prioritize tasks effectively.
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, and writing skills.
  • Knowledge of Medi-Cal reimbursement procedures, billing, and documentation requirements for complex youth and family needs.
  • Experience interfacing with foster care, child protective services, juvenile justice, group homes, residential treatment, and community mental health systems.
  • Ability to take initiative, provide constructive feedback, and offer recommendations that enhance client care and service delivery.
  • Capable of navigating organizational structures and collaborating proactively to improve service delivery and staff development.
  • Position Details and Compensation :

    This is a full-time, exempt position. Salary starting at $88,000 per year depending on experience, and includes performance based compensation, comprehensive benefits package and 403(b) plan, as well as a 10% Spanish language differential for qualified candidates.
