Construction Inspection Specialist (Flex Staff)

CDM Smith is looking for Inspectors to provide independent, professional construction inspection and oversight of federal construction projects with agencies such as USACE, AFCEC, and NAVFAC. This is a pipeline requisition for future projects. The Construction Inspection Specialist documents inspection findings and communicates issues to project leadership. The role requires applying broad professional knowledge of construction practices to meet client needs, clearly communicating project progress and issues to diverse functional teams and project leadership, and ensuring projects are delivered successfully, safely, and in compliance with applicable requirements. Work is performed independently under limited supervision.

Job Duties:

• Conducts on-site inspections of construction, rehabilitation, and maintenance projects to verify compliance with approved design specifications, industry standards, safety codes, and applicable federal regulations.
• Documents inspection results inclusive of deficiencies, deterioration, structural condition, deviations between design and execution of construction, required corrective actions, and any needed sampling.
• Reviews contractor submittals, RFIs, shop drawings, and material certifications in coordination with engineers and project management teams.
• Monitors construction progress, prepares and maintains detailed daily reports, deficiency notices, project status reports, and technical recommendations.
• Inspects and verifies construction materials and testing processes to ensure compliance with specifications and standards.
• Oversees and coordinates field construction related services on projects, enforcing adherence to safety, environmental, quality control, and permitting requirements.
• Conducts site investigations, reviews relevant data including maps, reports, test results, drawings, and others as required.
• Participates in pre-construction meetings, design reviews, technical assessments, safety meetings, and project closeout/punch list activities.
• Ensures compliance with guidelines and regulations including permits, safety, etc. and delivers technical files and other technical documentation as required.
• Develops, trains, and mentors junior construction professionals, provides technical direction, and serves as a liaison between contractors, engineering staff, and client.

Minimum Qualifications:

• High School Diploma
• At least 5 years of relevant construction experience. Domestic travel is required. Overseas travel is also possible.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Prior Federal or DoD project experience (NAVFAC, USACE, or Air Force CE) is highly desirable.
• Experience in vertical (facilities/buildings) and horizontal (utilities, waterfront, airfield, infrastructure) construction is desired.
• Knowledge of federal acquisition and contracting practices.
• Familiarity with UFGS specifications, UFC design criteria, and EM manuals.
• Familiarity with electronic systems such as eCMS, RMS/QCS, or other QA tools.
• OSHA 30-Hour Construction Safety and Health
• Construction Quality Management (CQM) for Contractors

Background Check and Drug Testing Information:

CDM Smith reserves the right to require background checks including criminal, employment, education, licensure, etc. as well as credit and motor vehicle when applicable for certain positions. In addition, CDM Smith may conduct drug testing for designated positions. Background checks are conducted after an offer of employment has been made in the United States. The timing of when background checks will be conducted on candidates for positions outside the United States will vary based on country statutory law but in no case, will the background check precede an interview. CDM Smith will conduct interviews of qualified individuals prior to requesting a criminal background check, and no job application submitted prior to such interview shall inquire into an applicant's criminal history. If this position is subject to a background check for any convictions related to its responsibilities and requirements, employment will be contingent upon successful completion of a background investigation including criminal history. Criminal history will not automatically disqualify a candidate. Pay Range Minimum: $27.30

Pay Range Maximum: $54.60

Additional Compensation: All bonuses at CDM Smith are discretionary and may or may not apply to this position.

Work Location Options: Successful candidate will be required to work 100% in the field locations.

Driver's License Requirements: An appropriate and valid driver's license is required.
