Description
Mayfield Senior School of the Holy Child Jesus, an independent Catholic girls’ high school in Pasadena, California, seeks a mission-driven, joyful and creative educator to teach dance part-time for the 2024-25 school year.
The ideal candidate will be knowledgeable in best practices in dance instruction, understand the physical and emotional developmental needs of teenage girls and find joy working with young women in a school setting.
The successful candidate will have a strong background in dance, experience teaching different styles of dance, and the ability to inspire a love for dance in their students.
This is a part-time, 10-month, exempt position. Some evening and weekend work is required.
Responsibilities :
- Teach two sections of dance during the school day and one conservatory class after school.
- Develop and implement a comprehensive dance curriculum for high school students, incorporating various styles such as ballet, jazz, modern, hip-hop, and cultural dances
- Plan and lead engaging dance classes that cater to diverse skill levels and interests.
- Work with student choreographers on performances highlighting different styles of choreography.
- Collaborate with colleagues in Fine Arts and other disciplines to integrate dance, musical theatre, and drama into interdisciplinary projects and performances.
- Demonstrate a commitment to belonging and inclusion by introducing students to a rich and broad range of dance genres with a focus on thoughtful historic and cultural context.
- Stay informed about current trends and best practices in dance education, attending professional development workshops and conferences as needed.

Salary
The annual salary range for this position is $32,500 to $41,000 based on 20 hours per week. A comprehensive benefits package will be provided including 403(b) matching contributions upon hire.

Qualifications and Education Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in dance or related field; master’s degree preferred.
- Professional dance experience and a strong background in different styles of dance and choreography
- Experience or strong interest in teaching dance within an independent school setting.
- Familiarity with world music and world dance forms, reflecting a global perspective.
- Ability to teach students with diverse learning styles and abilities, demonstrating inclusivity.
- Strong interpersonal skills

Wage Range
The rate of pay offered to the selected candidate is based on internal pay policy and budget. New hires are commonly paid at the minimum of the wage range or within the lower part of the range.
