As a Youth Residential Counselor you will be the centerpiece of making our commitment a reality. Welcome to Mount Prospect Academy (MPA) a rapidly growing alliance of nonprofit agencies founded in 2003 with the goal of helping struggling adolescents find a zest for life and succeed in the business of life.

MPA has evolved to offer a variety of mental health support services to a diverse population of hard to treat and difficult to place adolescents. Our targeted services include home and community-based treatment residential treatment programs group homes and special education schools. MPA is known for its ability to achieve successful outcomes with difficult-to-serve individuals throughout New England.

Mission :

MPAs mission is to provide a caring safe therapeutic environment where students have the opportunity to grow and acquire the skills they need to reach their educational and social potential. We aim to develop trusting relationships with students and facilitate experiences that promote their ability to self-regulate; manage thoughts and feelings; and develop feelings of safety confidence and competency.

Position Summary : Responsible for service delivery to the students in the assigned residential program in accordance with program goals and each students Individual Treatment Plan. Responsible for creating and maintaining positive supportive and always professional relationships and managing Youth Counselors.

Job Functions and Responsibilities

  • Participate as a team player in MPAs residential treatment model for youth;
  • Supervise youth in accordance with MPA policies procedures and the youths individual treatment plans;
  • Properly facilitate the residential programs routine;
  • Coordinate manage and participate in recreational and educational programming for youth;
  • Clearly and professionally document all services provided according to program policies and procedures;
  • Use training to provide behavioral management and crisis intervention;
  • Teach youth social skills;
  • Engage in behavioral management techniques in accordance with policies procedures and training;
  • Communicate effectively with other employees youth and other stakeholders;
  • Uphold professional conduct boundaries with youth families and other stakeholders at all times :
  • Engage and connect with youth as a compassionate professional;
  • Attend professional trainings and workshops and strive to understand and implement all trainings and workshops in residential programming;
  • Manage facilities so they are clean orderly and free of all hazards;
  • Provide supervision and guidance to Youth Counselors
  • Arrange laundry phone hygiene and other schedules for students to meet the structured requirements of their daily routines
  • Develop and maintain Individual Crisis Management Plan (ICMPs) and Specialized Behavioral Intervention Plan (SBIPs) for each student on the community
  • Manage physical plant needs on the community requesting maintenance support when appropriate
  • Assist in managing the transportation fleet;
  • Manage weekly communication to entire team about student progress
  • Abide by all MPA policies and procedures
  • Perform other tasks as assigned.

Professional Expectations

  • Must be able to successfully complete all phases or pre-service training and on-going training as required by state and MPA policy
  • Must be able to work in occasionally high pressure high stress and physical environment. Position may experience verbal and / or physical aggression from client population.
  • Computer literacy organization and solid writing and editing skills are essential
  • Possess independent problem-solving skills and be willing to seek assistance and guidance when needed.
  • High level of accuracy organization and detail orientation required
  • Must possess strong communication skills both verbal and written.

  • Required Qualifications :

  • Valid Drivers License
  • Meet safe driver guidelines as established by employers insurance carrier
  • Position requires criminal background check
  • 21 years or older
  • Associate or Bachelors degree or 60 college credits.
  • Or : A high school diploma or GED and one of the following :
  • The equivalent of 2 years of full-time experience working with children
  • OR any combination of credits in human services & experience with children that totals two years OR 7 years of parenting experience
  • OR requirements that meet NH Child Care Licensing Regulation He-C 4001.19
  • When an applicant for a direct care staff member does not meet one of the provisions above they may still be considered if they have a clear plan for obtaining 12 credits in the Human Service field within 2 years.
