Job Overview :
This is a full-time contract assignment in a correctional healthcare environment. The Registered Nurse (RN) provides direct and supervisory nursing care for incarcerated individuals, ensuring safe, effective, and compassionate treatment within a secure facility. The role requires strong clinical judgment, adaptability, and a commitment to maintaining both patient care standards and correctional security.
Responsibilities :
- Provide comprehensive nursing care in accordance with state licensure and correctional healthcare policies.
- Assist providers during examinations, treatments, and sick call visits.
- Dispense, administer, and document medication distribution, including pill call.
- Perform patient assessments, triage illnesses and injuries, and coordinate referrals to higher-level care when necessary.
- Supervise and support LVN / LPN staff and unlicensed medical personnel.
- Maintain accurate and confidential medical records in compliance with standards.
- Monitor inmate hospitalizations and assist with early releases as directed.
- Respond to medical emergencies and perform rescue functions in crises or disasters.
- Conduct safety checks of medical units and secure medical supplies.
- Provide health counseling and education to inmates / residents as required.
Requirements :
Must reside more than 70 miles from the facility (no local applicants).Minimum 1 year of recent RN experience.Active, unrestricted New Mexico RN license.Active BLS certification (AHA preferred).Must be able to start within 2 weeks of offer.Open availability; no RTO or scheduling restrictions allowed.Must not have worked at the same facility in the past 6 months.Must not be on any industry DNU list.U.S. Citizenship and Social Security card required for facility clearance.Preferred :
Prior correctional or behavioral health nursing experience.Strong leadership and supervisory skills.Ability to remain calm and effective in high-stress, secure environments.
