As an Associate Engineer in the Bureau of Fire Prevention, you will work under the supervision of a Senior Engineer and contribute to the departments mission of protecting life, property, and the environment.
Position Duties
- Examine plans, perform calculations, and review specifications for commercial, industrial, and residential buildings for compliance with the California Building Code, California Fire Code, California State Fire Marshal regulations, NFPA standards, and local ordinances.
- Provide technical advice to consultants, architects, engineers, contractors, developers, and department staff on fire safety code application and interpretation, and resolve fire safety issues found in preliminary design.
- Analyze and evaluate proposals for alternate materials, construction methods, and variances to fire safety codes and regulations.
- Conduct field inspections to ensure finished construction complies with approved plans.
- Focus on one or more of the following BFP areas : Building Life Safety Systems, Fire Sprinkler / Suppression Systems, Fire Alarm Systems, or Site Development.
Minimum Qualifications
Education : A bachelors degree in Fire Protection, Mechanical, Electrical, Civil, or related engineering discipline, or possession of an Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certificate.Experience : Three (3) years of increasingly responsible professional engineering experience. A masters degree may be substituted for one (1) year of experience.Licenses or Certificates : Possession of a valid State of California drivers license is required.Disclosure : This position requires the completion and filing of an Assuming Office Form 700 with the City Clerks Office within the first 30 days of employment.Salary Range
Salary range for the Association Engineer classification is $135,975.84 $172,099.20.
