LOCATION: Mound Park Upper Elementary School (60%) and Westview Elementary School (40%)
WORK YEAR: 2025-2026 School Year
SALARY: Per FEA Contract

Description:
Provides for instruction of students by developing, selecting, and modifying instructional plans and materials and presenting them using current instructional techniques which meet the needs of all students. Provides an atmosphere and environment conducive to the intellectual, physical, social and emotional development of students. Supervises students in a variety of school-related settings and activities. Monitors and evaluates student performance while developing and implementing plans to improve student
performance. Maintains required records and follows required procedures and practices.

Qualifications:
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.
The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skills, and/or abilities required.
  • Master's degree in speech and language pathology.
  • Valid Michigan Speech-Language Pathologist Licence and Certificate of Clinical Competence (CCC) from the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA) or working towards a certificate (CFY).
  • Must submit to pass a criminal background check
  • Experience servicing children with speech and language impairments.
  • Able to bill for services performed through the county Medicaid system.
  • Able to follow all state and federal guidelines and timelines for the service and assessment of children with speech and language impairments.
  • Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable.
  • Ability to work with a diverse student population.

Duties & Responsibilities:
Serves as a resource to school staff members in the development of a balanced program for oral communication and speech improvement within multiple settings.
  • Assists and guides teachers in observing, describing, and referring to suspected and identified speech and language impairments.
  • Provides screening to suspected speech-impaired children at regular intervals and at specified levels.
  • Provides appropriate individualized programs of therapy to meet individual students' needs and correct existing speech or language handicaps.
  • Collaborates with classroom teachers and other school staff members to implement therapy by suggestions for the student's daily activities.
  • Provides information, support, and counseling to parents and families when appropriate.
  • Conducts and provides written evaluations to suspected students with disabilities or students enrolled in special education in the areas of speech, voice, language and oral motor skills.
  • Provides direct one-on-one and group speech and language services to eligible students with disabilities.
  • Provides consultation to staff and parents/guardians regarding speech and language services, including use of augmentative communication systems and devices related to the individual needs of students.
  • Develops and writes annual goals and short-term instructional objectives for students assigned to caseload.
  • Attending, chairing, and participating in Multidisciplinary Evaluation Team (MET) and Individualized Education Program Team (IEPT) meetings is required and requested.
  • Compiles and maintains records, written reports, and other documentation for students assigned o the caseload or as a part of a response to intervention assessment.
  • Assumes primary responsibility for requisitioning and maintaining equipment and supplies for speech and language services.
  • Provides in-service information and training to staff and parents on the integration of language development and supportive therapies into daily classroom instruction and other environments and activities.
