The Villages Health is seeking a full-time Nurse Practitioner / Physician Assistant Nocturnist who is willing to serve our patients in the hospital.
Join us and our team of providers who partner to be patient-centered and community-focused here in The Villages, America’s Healthiest Hometown! APP Nocturnist is responsible for admitting patients to the hospital on the floor and in the emergency department.
Diagnosis and treatment plans will be developed as will admission orders.
Appropriately discharging patients when indicated.
Will work closely with attending physicians and other clinicians in a team-based approach to patient care. Schedule is 7 PM to 7 AM, 7-on, 7-off. Hours may occasionally vary.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Perform thorough history and physicals and enters timely into current hospital EMR.
Perform admission orders and proper use of order sets when admitting a patient into the hospital.
Assume care of hospitalized patients during duty hours and respond to nursing and physician calls.
Entry of additional orders and follow up exams as indicated.
Timely billing of patients seen.
Orders appropriate laboratory diagnostic and other screening tests.
Seeks other information as needed, including consultation with physicians and other clinicians, for evaluation of illness.
Develops and implements treatment plans.
Instructs patient / family regarding medications and treatments.
EDUCATIONAL / EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS MSN required.
APRN / DNP or PA-C required.
Successful completion of advanced practitioner training and certification as a practitioner (general or specialized) from an approved nurse practitioner or physician assistant program.
Minimum of 1 year of APP experience in a hospital setting, plus two years of nurse practitioner or physician assistant experience.
Must possess a current CPR / BLS or ACLS certification and current health records with the appropriate immunizations or proof of immunity to work in the health care field (hepatitis B and tuberculosis).
KNOWLEDGE 1.
Knowledge of advanced practice of nursing including anatomy and physiology, pathophysiology, pharmacology and therapeutics, basic nutrition, behavioral factors, psychosocial / family systems, diagnostic testing, interpretation of results and clinical decision making, alternative treatment modalities. 2.
Knowledge of professional nursing theory, practices and regulations related to evaluating and providing patient care, and professional ethics related to the delivery of nursing care. 3.
Knowledge of medical equipment and instruments used to administer patient care. 4.
Knowledge of common safety hazards and precautions to establish / maintain a safe work environment. 5.
Knowledge of health promotion, health risk identification, and patient education principles and techniques. 6.
Knowledge of community, professional, and educational resources. 7.
Knowledge of hospital procedures.
SKILLS 1.
Skill in oral and written communication including interviewing to gather medical histories; providing presentations, consultations, facilitation, and documentation, e.g., writing medical orders, patient education materials, and medical record updates.
May require skill in using computerized health information management systems. 2.
Skill in case management, time management, problem solving, crisis intervention, multitasking, and other organizational matters. 3.
Skill in modifying methods and techniques of professional nursing to provide appropriate nursing care and in initiating appropriate emergency response and investigatory procedures.
