Covenant House California (CHC) is a nonprofit organization that provides sanctuary and support for youth overcoming homelessness, ages 18-24. CHC believes that no young person deserves to be homeless; that every young person in California deserves housing, food, clothing, education, and most importantly, to be loved. CHC provides a full continuum of services to meet the physical, emotional, educational, vocational, and spiritual well-being of young people.

We are looking for people who, like us, believe that every young person deserves a place to belong. This is a statewide position, and the Director may be located primarily at any of our 5 locations. Over the past 36 years, our services have grown and expanded, and we serve more than 1,500 young people every year.
As our agency provides direct care to young people that are 18-24 years old, we require that applicants are at least 25 years old.

CLASSIFICATION : Full-Time Salaried. Exempt
SALARY RANGE : $ 82,700-103,400 annually
POSITION SUMMARY :
Reporting to the Director of Finance and Controller, this new position is primarily responsible for successful management of complex accounting functions to support the financial operations of the business as well as invoicing and grant financial management on approximately 10-15 active government grants. This position is also responsible for developing systems and processes that are U.S. GAAP compliant and ensures that best practices in accounting and finance are utilized to drive financial performance.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS :

JOB REQUIREMENTS : EDUCATION :
Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or equivalent experience required, Master’s degree and / or CPA a plus
EXPERIENCE :
Minimum of 5 years working in related area required
SKILLS :
Strong attention to detail and accuracy and highly organized. Proactive, service-oriented, problem-solver with the ability to work independently. Advanced proficiency leveraging Microsoft Excel (functions, vlookup, table matching, formatting, and efficient file structuring), Experience using Oracle Netsuite.
KNOWLEDGE
Non-profit administration, accounting, and fund accounting. U.S. GAAP, standard financial principles. Familiarity with government funding and restrictive grants. Knowledge or willingness to train on youth homelessness, trauma-informed care, and program models used in homeless services is required.
SCHEDULE
This is a full-time role with a 40-hour work week.
REPORTING LOCATION
This is a hybrid role with an expectation of 3 days in-person at assigned primary location. 2 days to be worked from a safe and productive remote home office in California.
WORKING CONDITIONS :
The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. This is primarily an office position that will require working in home office and the company’s business / offices which are located in a shelter environment. Position requires occasional bending, reaching, stooping, lifting for prolonged periods, and moving of office equipment up to 40 lbs. May require infrequent instances where walking or standing for prolonged periods of time is required. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to loud.
TRANSPORTATION
Must have a valid CA driver’s license, good driving record, reliable transportation, proof of auto liability insurance; and access to a personal vehicle for work-related purposes.
TRAVEL
This position may require infrequent travel for site visits and staff / leadership visits.
SUPERVISORY DUTIES :
This position will directly supervise the Accounts Payable Manager and indirectly supervisor the members of the AP team.
EQ UIPMENT USED : ADDITIONAL :
Telephones, computers, computer peripherals, Microsoft Suite, email, and internet programs.
