Over the past 36 years, our services have grown and expanded, and we serve more than 1,500 young people every year.

As our agency provides direct care to young people that are 18-24 years old, we require that applicants are at least 25 years old.

CLASSIFICATION : Full-Time Salaried. Exempt

SALARY RANGE : $ 82,700-103,400 annually

POSITION SUMMARY :

Reporting to the Director of Finance and Controller, this new position is primarily responsible for successful management of complex accounting functions to support the financial operations of the business as well as invoicing and grant financial management on approximately 10-15 active government grants. This position is also responsible for developing systems and processes that are U.S. GAAP compliant and ensures that best practices in accounting and finance are utilized to drive financial performance.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS :

The essential functions of this role fall into two primary categories as follows :

• ACCOUNTING AND FINANCIAL CLOSE :
• Review and validate the accuracy of financial, payables, payroll, reports, and other data.
• Review and analyze accounting work of Grant Accountant, AP Specialist and AP Clerk, Cash Receipts and payroll.
• Reconcile Donations to CRM system (Raiser’s Edge)
• Review and create schedules for Balance Sheet accounts.
• Reconcile general ledger accounts including bank accounts; create journal entries.
• Process monthly, quarterly, and year-end close.
• Provide support for annual financial audit, single audit, and 990.
• Assist with budget preparation, tracking, and variance analysis.
• Assist CFO Director of Finance, Controller with financial account analysis and preparation of other financial reports in accordance with GAAP and FASB and current accounting pronouncements for annual audit, including audit schedules.
• Prepare ad hoc reports as needed.
• GRANT ACCOUNTING AND REPORTING :
• Prepares timely and accurate monthly / quarterly grant and contract billings as assigned by supervisor.
• Verify Payroll & Timecard Reports per assigned grants.
• Verify employee profiles entered by Human Resources department are correct regarding Program, Job Functions and Compensation maintenance.
• Maintains all timely and accurate accounting records in the area of responsibility and retains records in accordance with the agency’s retention policy.
• Support grant budget vs. actual reporting lead by the Associate Director of Grants Management for assigned grants as a liaison to the program team
• Assists the CFO / Controller in various administrative services related duties.
• Systems training.
• Monitor budget expenditures and coordinate with Grants Management team in supporting recurring budget vs. actuals business reviews.
• Budget narrative writing to assist with grant applications.
• Monitor grant accounts receivable and collection of payments (may include performing payment drawdowns).
• Manage a portfolio of up to 15 grants (Federal, state and locally funded).
• Monthly / quarterly compliance reports to funders, close out reports, and contract end cost reports.
• Federal grants reporting of Federal Financial Report (quarterly, semi, and annual).
• Salary and other allocations for all assigned grants.
• Assist with grant / contract monitoring at request of various agencies.
• Recording cash receipts for grants and donations

OTHER DUTIES MAY BE ASSIGNED TO MEET BUSINESS NEEDS.

JOB REQUIREMENTS : EDUCATION :

Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or equivalent experience required, Master’s degree and / or CPA a plus

EXPERIENCE :

Minimum of 5 years working in related area required

SKILLS :

Strong attention to detail and accuracy and highly organized. Proactive, service-oriented, problem-solver with the ability to work independently. Advanced proficiency leveraging Microsoft Excel (functions, vlookup, table matching, formatting, and efficient file structuring), Experience using Oracle Netsuite.

KNOWLEDGE

Non-profit administration, accounting, and fund accounting. U.S. GAAP, standard financial principles. Familiarity with government funding and restrictive grants. Knowledge or willingness to train on youth homelessness, trauma-informed care, and program models used in homeless services is required.

SCHEDULE

This is a full-time role with a 40-hour work week.

REPORTING LOCATION

This is a hybrid role with an expectation of 3 days in-person at assigned primary location. 2 days to be worked from a safe and productive remote home office in California.

WORKING CONDITIONS :

The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. This is primarily an office position that will require working in home office and the company’s business / offices which are located in a shelter environment. Position requires occasional bending, reaching, stooping, lifting for prolonged periods, and moving of office equipment up to 40 lbs. May require infrequent instances where walking or standing for prolonged periods of time is required. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to loud.

TRANSPORTATION

Must have a valid CA driver’s license, good driving record, reliable transportation, proof of auto liability insurance; and access to a personal vehicle for work-related purposes.

TRAVEL

This position may require infrequent travel for site visits and staff / leadership visits.

SUPERVISORY DUTIES :

This position will directly supervise the Accounts Payable Manager and indirectly supervisor the members of the AP team.

Telephones, computers, computer peripherals, Microsoft Suite, email, and internet programs.
