American Traveler is seeking a Registered Nurse for a Medical ICU position in Michigan requiring at least one year of ICU experience and current BLS, ACLS, and NIH certifications.
\n \n Responsibilities\n
Work in a mixed ICU / PCU setting within a hospital environmentPatient population includes ICU, PCU, and general medicine / transfer patientsPatient ratios vary from 1 : 1 for high acuity or vented patients to 4 : 1 for stable PCU / Gen Med patients, and 5-6 : 1 on med-surg during floatingTypical patient diagnoses include COPD, encephalopathy, drug overdose, DKA, AKI, respiratory failure, cardiac arrest, heart failure, and A-fibSpecial procedures include CRRT, hemodialysis, A-line, CVC, trach, and chest tube placementsSpecialized equipment used includes cooling machines, Bair Huggers, massive transfusion equipment, and CRRT devicesNight shift schedule, four 12-hour shifts from 7 : 00 PM to 7 : 00 AMEvery other weekend is requiredFloating to other ICU and Med Surg units is required as neededResponsible for managing a range of high-acuity and step-down patients with complex needsWill be required to float in rotation with core staff and other agency RNsFlu vaccination required; exemption requests must be submitted within 48 hours of contract signingCompletion of required modules during orientation and annually, modules are self-reportedMust be available for the entire week of orientationAllowed to request only one holiday off (day or eve, but not both) during assignmentAverage number of ventilated patients in unit is three per dayFirst-time travelers are welcome to applyLocals are accepted at the same rate, with no radius restrictionsFormer staff must have been off staff for at least six months to be eligible for return\n \n Requirements\n
Active Michigan RN license in handBLS (AHA), ACLS (AHA), and NIH Stroke Scale certifications requiredAt least one year of ICU experience is requiredSkilled in cardiac monitoring, dysrhythmia management, emergency response, and multi-system organ failureExperience with IV insulin protocols, GI surgery patients, chronic / acute renal failure, CVVHD / CRRT, and ventilator managementProficient in arterial line management, administration of blood products, central and PICC line care, and initiating IVsAbility to administer continuous IV sedation, emergency medications, procedural sedation, and titrate cardiac / vasoactive dripsDemonstrated competence in CVA / acute stroke management and respiratory care including BiPAP, CPAP, and HFNC\n Benefits\n
