Position Summary:

Mixes and applies dry and /or wet fertilizers, pesticides, herbicides, fungicides or insecticides via broadcast, sprays, dusts, vapors, soil incorporation or chemical application on fields and crops. Maintains equipment and facilities, trains less experienced applicators, takes inventory of products, picks up and delivers products, and occasionally sells agronomy products.

Essential Functions:

• Application of wet, dry and vapor agronomy products to soil and vegetation. Engages and runs application machinery. Covers areas to specified fields, applying knowledge of weather conditions, amount needed and obstructions. Makes adjustments to machinery, including but not limited to hoses, nozzles and tubes to account for terrain, distribution pattern, type of material applied and velocities.
• Mixes chemical and fertilizers according to formulas. Estimates quantities and time needed to complete each field or assignment. Determines whether the work complies with laws, regulations, and standards.
• Sets up machinery to direct application over designated areas. Cleans and services machinery to ensure operating efficiency. Inspect machine on a daily basis. Reports all machinery malfunctions and ensures that repairs are completed. Makes minor repairs and adjustments in the field.
• Assists in keeping all equipment and facilities in good order. During the off season, assist with major repairs, paint equipment and facilities, and perform other maintenance duties as directed. Assist in the movement and accounting of inventory.

Other Duties:

• Deliveries of products sold – including carts and liquid tanks.

Education:

• HS Diploma
• State Individual Commercial Pesticide Applicator License preferred.

Experience:

• 1-2 years’ experience with application equipment preferred.
• CDL Required

Knowledge-Skills-Reasoning Ability:

• Knowledge of farming practices
• Working knowledge of application equipment
• On the fly problem solving. Developing strategies of accomplishing tasks with efficiency.
• Communication skills with customers to let them know how the job is going.
• Ability to builds customer relationships by listening to the needs of customers, understanding their point of view, and communicating deliverables.
• Ability to organize work and plan a path to the desired outcome and efficiently allocates time to complete work.
• Ability to take pride and ownership in the maintenance of equipment and facilities.

Additional information:

• Lifting of up to 75 lbs.
• Must be able to climb, sit for long periods, bend, twist, push, pull, reach, and grasp.
• Must be willing to work outdoors in all weather conditions.
• Must be willing to work with hazardous materials under strict safety guidelines.
• Must be able to work long hours during planting and harvesting season.
• Must be willing to work on rough terrain.

This position does require a pre-hire, post-offer criminal background check, and a drug screen.
