Job Overview

Masa NY is seeking a dedicated and hardworking Kitchen Porter to join our dynamic team in a fast-paced kitchen environment. The ideal candidate will play a crucial role in maintaining cleanliness and efficiency within the kitchen, as well as supporting chefs and kitchen staff in food preparation and service. This position offers a lot of potential and growth within the Company.

Primary Responsibilities Include, but not Limited to :

  • Cleaning and sterilizing countertops, kitchen walls, stoves, ovens, grills and sinks.
  • Cleaning the entire kitchen once it is closed to ensure it is ready for the next day.
  • Maintaining food storage areas like freezers and refrigerators.
  • Receiving deliveries and organizing them in the kitchen.
  • Washing cutlery and glassware, pots, cutting boards and pans or utilizing the dishwasher depending on the equipment being washed
  • Providing assistance to the Prep Cooks and other kitchen staff as needed.
  • Supporting the Chef de Cuisine in basic food preparation like cutting ingredients, peeling and washing food items.
  • Following New York Department of Health standards, procedures, and protocols when completing tasks.
  • Complying with all Company guidelines, training procedures, and performance expectations.
  • Regularly attending to your shifts and complying with the Company’s protocols regarding all absences and tardiness.
  • Handling all Company curated dishware and glassware with meticulous regard and care.
  • Communicating with BOH or FOH management regarding all breakage.
  • Assure all equipment is operating accordingly and communicating with management when there is a maintenance issue.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required :

  • 2+ years of experience as a Kitchen Porter.
  • Strong interpersonal skills.
  • Knowledge of New York Department of Health standards and protocols.
  • Analytical skills - the ability to compare, contrast and quality check work.
  • Strong verbal communication skills.
  • Familiar with hospitality industry’s best practices.
  • Language Skills – Fluency in English is necessary to perform the job.
