About the Role : High School Math Teacher

As a High School Math Teacher at Uncommon Schools, you will play a pivotal role in guiding students to become self-directed learners. You will immerse yourself in your subject matter, inspiring and motivating high school students with your passion for mathematics. Your classes will not only focus on problem-solving but also on instilling a deep joy for math.

Key Responsibilities

1. Instruction

  • Teach a Math curriculum that includes Algebra, Geometry, and Calculus, preparing students for Advanced Placement (AP) and collegiate-level coursework.
  • Support students in critical thinking and problem-solving.
  • Foster confidence and engagement in mathematics through your enthusiasm.
  • Encourage students to construct and justify viable arguments using reasoning and math vocabulary.
  • Create a community of self-guided learners where students feel safe and engaged.
  • Collaborate with the Math department to set academic and engagement goals.

2. Data Analysis

  • Meet weekly with your principal and / or instructional coach to analyze student work and assessment trends.
  • Implement strategies to differentiate instruction for all learners.
  • 3. School Culture

  • Build positive relationships with students to ensure they feel seen, loved, and heard.
  • Partner with families to provide resources that support student learning.
  • Engage in practice-based professional development and mentorship.
  • Participate in weekly school-wide meetings to foster community and model core values.
  • Collaborate with your grade-level team to develop academic goals and instructional strategies.
  • Qualifications

  • A strong commitment to supporting students’ social, emotional, and academic development.
  • Enthusiasm for collaboration with internal and external partners for student success.
  • A self-directed learner who actively seeks and implements feedback.
  • Required Experience :
  • 1-2 years of experience impacting K-12 students in urban schools preferred.

  • Academic expertise in Mathematics, Science, Technology, Engineering, or related fields.
  • A bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution is required. Certification is not mandatory at hiring, but you must meet NY state certification eligibility requirements.

    Benefits and Compensation

    Compensation : The salary for this role ranges from $50,000 to $64,700, based on factors such as relevant teaching experience and education certifications.
