YOUR DAY-TO-DAY AS A FLUORESCENT PENETRANT INSPECTION TECHNICIAN

As a Fluorescent Penetrant Inspection Technician, your day starts with preparing the workspace, ensuring all tools and materials are ready for the inspection process. You meticulously clean each part before applying the penetrant, carefully monitoring the dwell time to ensure optimal results. After removing the excess penetrant and letting the parts dry, you apply the developer, setting the stage for a thorough UV-A inspection. As the fluorescent indications reveal themselves, you interpret and record your findings, determining the disposition of the parts according to the specifications. Throughout the day, you also perform visual and dimensional inspections, using calipers, micrometers, and height gauges to guarantee the highest standard of quality in your work.

Here's what you need to become our Fluorescent Penetrant Inspection Technician :

  • High school diploma or GED
  • NDT Level II certification in PT / FPI per NAS-410 or ASNT SNT-TC-1A (or equivalent documented training / experience)
  • 2+ years of FPI experience on metallic components (aerospace or gas-turbine parts preferred)
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, specs, and work instructions
  • Familiarity with ASTM E1417, AMS 2644, and quality systems (e.g., QSi, SAP)
  • Ability to pass near-vision and color-vision exams required for NDT
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and operate small cranes
