GLC On-The-Go is seeking a travel MRI Technologist for a travel job in Bethesda, Maryland. Job Description & Requirements Specialty : MRI Technologist Discipline : Allied Health Professional Start Date : ASAP Duration : 13 weeks 40 hours per week Shift : 8 hours Employment Type : Travel MRI Technologist INTRODUCTION This position is located in the Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) Technologist located in the National Institutes of Health, Clinical Center, Radiology & Imaging Sciences department. The incumbent performs complex clinical and research MRI procedures on patients and may be asked to participate in the design and evaluation of new imaging methods and techniques. The incumbent must perform at a technical level not requiring supervision. Technologist may be asked to become a team leader and direct work of others occasionally. MAJOR DUTIES The incumbent is an active, essential participant in MRI imaging. Regarding the planning and design of clinical and research experiments, the MR technologist may have significant input into the design of new research protocols particularly regarding the allocation of staffing and equipment, sufficiency of equipment and computer software and the impact of new methods on other protocols and techniques, recommends techniques for streamlining and improving clinical and research methods. Incumbent may be asked to perform exams in the operating room during surgery.

  • Performs a variety of MR examinations using established protocols.
  • Prescreens patients using MRI eligibility checklist.
  • Receives patient, explains procedure and answers all patient questions and concerns pertaining to exam.
  • Able to recognize abnormal anatomy and show initiative to improve the diagnostic quality of images of abnormality.
  • Reconstructs images, archives and transfers information to PACS system.
  • Monitors and assist patients before, during and after the examination.
  • Completes appropriate orders in Radiology Information System (RIS) in a timely manner.
  • Ensures proper order entry, to include correcting orders in CRIS and / or RIS.
  • Maintains patient, hospital and employee confidentiality
  • Operates imaging and other related equipment according to manufacturer's specifications.
  • Assists radiologists in performing a variety of imaging examinations using sterile techniques when necessary.
  • Provides first aid and / or CPR to patient when necessary
  • Performs quality control and records as applicable.
  • Ability to troubleshoot equipment.
  • Takes initiative to solve problems within their scope of duty.
  • Provide quality care to patients of varying categories, (e.g. pediatric, adolescent, through geriatric).
  • Performs select nursing duties, which include, injecting with contrast enhancing agents and flushing vascular access devices (VAD) (e.g. Hickman, triple lumen, PICC lines, ports, etc).
  • Performs venipuncture.
  • Monitors patient vitals using MRI compatible equipment
  • Maintains accurate patient log.
  • Confers with radiologists concerning scanning / imaging routines.
  • Able to recognize and respond to contrast media reactions. sow RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Carries out safety and infection control procedures to ensure patient, staff and visitor safety.
  • Responds to customers in a friendly, prompt and caring manner, maintaining confidentiality and respect.

  • Promotes mutual respect and professionalism.
  • Demonstrates proper use of equipment as specified by manufacturer.
  • Assists in training junior staff.
  • Consistently follows established policies and procedures in performing job duties to ensure quality and completeness of work performed.
  • Maintains up-to-date knowledge of developments in MRI.
  • Communicates with engineers and representatives from manufacturers when needed.
  • Recommends / implements actions for improvement of performance / quality of the section.
  • Shares responsibility for procurement, storage, and routing of supplies and room preparation.
  • Maintains CPR and ARRT registry certification.
  • Must be registered in MRI.
  • Notifies Radiologists and collaborators of significant scans requiring their immediate attention and visualization. KNOWLEDGE / ABILITIES REQUIRED BY THE POSITION
  • Knowledge of MRI physics and application of those principles.
  • Knowledge of MRI safety policies
  • Knowledge of equipment sufficient to monitor equipment and determine when maintenance is needed.
  • Knowledge of basic nursing practices related to radiography such as emergency cardiac arrest procedures and use of oxygen and IV maintenance.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology.
  • Knowledge of computers.
  • Knowledge of HIPPA patient confidentiality / privacy standards.
  • Knowledge of safety regulations, sterile techniques, universal precautions.
  • Knowledge of the mission and vision of The Radiology & Imaging Sciences and NIH.
  • Knowledge of anatomy and physiology for proper locating, appearance, and function of the various organ systems.
  • Knowledge of physical abnormalities associated with most diseases is necessary to recognize when additional imaging is warranted and to consider optimal techniques for optimal results.
  • Experience with various scanning equipment, procedures and imaging techniques.
  • Skill and ability to make both oral and written presentations
  • Ability to teach new pulse sequence techniques and procedures to members of the ORD scientific staff and collaborators.
  • Ability to use Radiology / hospital information systems and picture archival computer systems. KNOWLEDGE OF EQUIPMENT REQUIRED :

  • Siemens SUPERVISORY CONTROLS sow Works under the daily direction of the lead technologist in the modality area with administrative supervision by the chief technologist. Works closely and confers with radiologists and medical officers on a collaborative basis on complex assignments requiring special techniques. Work is evaluated for overall quality. Assignments are made in the form of work schedules and verbal instruction. Guidelines Reference materials are available to help in problem solving. Complexity The department may be engaged in development of new diagnostic procedures of which the technologist may play an important role. The MRI research program develops in vivo imaging and research procedures for the study of the spectrum of normal and pathological conditions in the brain and the body. Need of Department / Requirement Two (2), Full-time diagnostic radiologic technologists (MRI) who will work Monday-Friday, 10 : 00am-6 : 30pm. No on-call or holiday hours required. Scope and Effect The purpose of the work is to execute both clinical and research studies within the Radiology & Imaging Sciences in order to provide detailed images of relevant anatomy, physiology and biochemistry for a variety of diseases and clinical problems. Technical procedures developed in the course of this research can potentially have a profound effect on the research directions and clinical applications of MRI. Careful and knowledgeable application of these techniques is necessary in order to produce high quality clinical and research data. This may lead to early detection and a more detailed understanding of a wide variety of disease processes. Significant contributions to these projects are recognized in scientific papers.
