Description : OVERVIEW :
The Certified Pharmacy Technician is processing prescriptions to patients ordered by the medical staff. Other duties such as administrative and bookkeeping task, inventory control, stocking shelves, and data entry Pharmacy Techs are detailed oriented and work well in a fast-paced environment.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS :
- Accurately prepare and distribute patient medications
- Perform calculations
- Collect accurate patient information
- Process third party billing claims and assist with authorization completion
- Use technology to help maintain accurate patient records, medication inventory, and orders
- Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements
RESPONSIBILITIES / KNOWLEDGE / SKILLS :
Supports pharmacological services by stocking, assembling, and distributing medicationsHelps health care providers and patients by greeting them in person and by the phone, answering questions and requests, and referring inquiries to the pharmacistMaintains pharmacy inventory by checking pharmacy stock to determine inventory level, anticipating needed medications and supplies, placing, and expediting orders, verifying receipt, and removing outdated drugsMaintaining a safe and clean pharmacy by complying with procedures, rules, and regulationsProtects patients and employees by adhering to infection-control policies and protocolsOrganizes medications for pharmacist to dispense by reading medication orders and prescriptions, preparing labels, calculating quantities, and assembling intravenous solutions and other pharmaceutical therapiesMaintains records by recording and filing physicians’ orders and prescriptionsEnsures medication availability by delivering medications to patients and departmentsPrepares reports by collecting and summarizing informationPerform any other duties that may be necessary for the operation of the corporation and / or hospitalRequirements : QUALIFICATIONS :
High school diplomaPrevious experience in a pharmacy, retail, medical, or customer service settingPrevious experience as a Pharmacy TechnicianPHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS :
Frequent mobility and / or sitting required for extended periods of timeManual dexterity and use of a calculator or computer keyboard.Varied activities including standing, walking, reaching, bending, liftingOccasionally lifts to 50 poundsRequires corrected vision and hearing to normal rangesRequires working under stressful conditions or working irregular hoursExposure to communicable diseases, toxic substances, ionization radiation, medicinal preparations, and other conditions common to a hospital and / or clinic environment
