The Virtualization Administrator II is responsible for managing and maintaining the agency’s virtualized IT infrastructure across on-premises and cloud environments.
This role ensures the stability, performance, and security of VMware, Hyper-V, and Azure-based virtualization platforms.
The administrator contributes to the automation of infrastructure deployment, integration of Infrastructure as Code (IaC) into CI / CD pipelines and provides technical support for virtualization-related projects and initiatives.
Key Responsibilities
- Infrastructure Management :
- Administer on-premises virtualization platforms (VMware vSphere, Hyper-V) and cloud-hosted environments (Microsoft Azure, AWS).
- Oversee hardware infrastructure including servers, storage, and hypervisors.
Install, configure, and maintain virtual machines (VMs) and virtual infrastructure.
Operations & Support :Provide technical support for existing and emerging virtualization technologies.Diagnose and resolve issues related to virtualization performance, connectivity, and security.Monitor system performance and optimize resource allocation for efficiency.
Automation & CI / CD :Support automation of IT administration and server provisioning using tools such as Azure DevOps, Azure CLI, PowerShell, VMware PowerCLI, and Terraform.Integrate virtualization infrastructure into CI / CD pipelines through APIs and Infrastructure as Code.
Security & Compliance :Implement and manage backup and disaster recovery (BDR) solutions.Apply required patches, updates, and security configurations to maintain compliance with agency baselines and directives.
Documentation & Collaboration :Maintain detailed documentation of configurations, procedures, and policies.Work closely with other IT teams to ensure integration of virtualization solutions into broader IT systems.Assist in planning and execution of IT initiatives and projects related to virtualization.Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field, or equivalent experience .3 to 5 years of hands-on experience in virtualization administration.Demonstrated expertise in :Managing VMware vSphere environments.Supporting virtualization infrastructure in Microsoft Azure.Automation using Azure DevOps, Azure Automation, PowerShell, VMware PowerCLI, and Terraform (or similar IaC tools).Preferred Certifications :
