Job Description

SUMMARY :

The Quality Control Specialist I is responsible for collecting and processing data into the California Cancer Registry statewide database, by performing accurate and timely casefinding; abstracting data based on records from physician's offices and various other sources; performing tasks related to death clearance, including screening and classification, and updating of case data; resolving edits, performing linkage and consolidation of data submitted by reporting facilities and other regional sources. The Quality Control Specialist I may also assist with other regional and statewide tasks as necessary.

This is a high productivity position, and the incumbent must be able to meet productivity goals. This is a reading-intensive position as nearly all aspects of this position are performed on a computer and from reading online source material. The incumbent must be able to work independently.

This is a regular full-time time-limited position located in Sacramento, CA and is expected to last from October 1, 2025, through June 30, 2026, with a possibility of an extension contingent on funding availability. This position may allow for remote work and is expected to work during core business hours for the Pacific time zone. Some travel to perform field work or attend educational meetings may be required. Candidates based in California are preferred but candidates outside of CA will be considered and are welcome to apply.

Full salary range for this position : $70,296 to $101,911 per year. The typical hiring range for this position is from $70,296 (minimum) to $78,199 (the start of the second quartile), based on 100% FTE. The starting salary is determined using a variety of factors, such as the candidate's knowledge, skills, and experience, as well as internal equity consideration and budget availability.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following :

• Abstracts Physician Only, Death Certificate Only, Nursing Home Only and Coroner's cases.
• Abstracts for assigned contracted reporting facilities, which include but are not limited to surgery centers, radiation centers, or hospitals.
• Accurately interprets and codes American Joint Committee on Cancer (AJCC) TNM, Extent of Disease (EOD), ICD-O-3 coding, Solid Tumor Rules, and the Hematopoietic reporting requirements.
• Performs case-finding for contracted facilities as needed.
