Qualifications
- Graduation from an accredited nursing program
- Current California Registered Nurse License
- National Provider BLS (Basic Life Support) certification from the American Heart Association
- NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program) certification from the American Academy of Pediatrics
- Minimum of 1 year Obstetrics experience
Key Responsibilities
Patient Care and AssessmentConduct thorough assessments of pregnant women, including monitoring vital signs, fetal heart rates, and contractions
Develop and implement individualized care plans for patientsAdminister medications and treatments as prescribed by physiciansMonitor patients for any signs of complications or distressProvide emotional support and education to patients and their families throughout the labor and delivery processLabor and Delivery SupportAssist in the labor and delivery process, including coaching patients through contractions and pushing
Collaborate with obstetricians and other healthcare professionals during deliveriesMonitor fetal heart rates and maternal vital signs during laborPrepare delivery rooms and ensure all necessary equipment is available and functioningAssist with cesarean sections and other obstetrical procedures as neededNewborn CarePerform initial assessments of newborns, including Apgar scoring
Provide immediate post-delivery care, such as cleaning, weighing, and measuring the newbornAssist with breastfeeding initiation and educationMonitor newborns for any signs of complications or distressAdminister necessary medications and treatments to newborns as prescribedDocumentation and Record-KeepingMaintain accurate and detailed patient records, including assessments, treatments, and medications
Document all care provided in the hospital's electronic health record systemEnsure all required forms and consents are completed and properly filedParticipate in quality improvement initiatives and data collection as requiredPatient and Family EducationProvide comprehensive education to patients and families on topics such as prenatal care, labor and delivery, postpartum care, and newborn care
Offer guidance on breastfeeding techniques and troubleshooting
