Radiologic Technologist - Cath Lab - Full-Time

The Cardiac Cath Lab Radiologic Technologist under the direction of the Cath Lab Supervisor is responsible for performing the daily operations for the Cardiac Cath Lab. The Cardiac Cath Lab Radiologic Technologist is responsible for direct and indirect patient care, scrubbing for diagnostic / interventional cases and hemodynamic monitoring. Other departmental duties as assigned, such as : ordering supplies, maintaining inventory, cost efficiency, providing appropriate information towards future needs and actively supports process improvement within the Department. The Cardiac Cath Lab Radiologic Technologist demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to any age-related needs of adults and adult-geriatric patients in the Cath Lab. The individual demonstrates knowledge of the principles of growth and development appropriate to the patient population served. Assumes, under the direction of the Laboratory, responsibility for patient specimen testing, quality control, quality improvement, and equipment maintenance.

Roles and Responsibilities :

• Assists Cardiologist in performance of diagnostic invasive procedures. Maintains operational knowledge of Cath Lab equipment according to manufactures specifications.
• Assists and performs diagnostic invasive procedures in the Cardiac Cath Lab. Scrubs and assists Cardiologist as requested. Responds to patient distress situations and assists with equipment quality control and inventory management. Prepares sterile trays, instruments, supplies and equipment necessary for procedures, and maintains sterile field. Provides all appropriate services to safely and efficiently complete patient procedures. Maintains knowledge of cardiac concepts and clinical practices. Ensures patients are correctly prepped and draped in a sterile fashion.
• Possesses the knowledge & skills level of basic and complex invasive procedures which may include : Percutaneous Coronary Intervention (PCI), stents, IABP placement and operation and peripheral interventions. Responsible for patient safety in the CCL and must be able to recognize cardiac arrhythmias and respond according to emergency protocols, operate external cardiac pacemaker and defibrillator. Intervenes with appropriate therapy in the event of cardiac emergencies.
• Maintains, troubleshoots and operates fluoroscopy equipment to ensure operability and safety. Calibrates equipment and performs routine preventive maintenance procedures.
• Assumes off premise call responsibilities as required to assure complete call coverage.
• Collects all pertinent diagnostic data and all necessary calculations for physician's interpretation of results.
• Assumes off premise call responsibilities as required to assure complete call coverage.
• Is flexible in assuming other appropriate responsibilities not noted above.
