Responsibilities Work in a 54-bed Neuro Med-Surg Acute unit in an acute care setting Patient population includes stroke, spine surgery, seizure, brain tumor, head injury, and general neuroscience cases with some medical overflow Day shift, 12-hour shifts (0700-1900), 3 shifts per week Weekend and holiday rotation required, every other weekend and holiday Nurse-to-patient ratios are 1 : 4-5 on days and 1 : 5-6 on nights RNs are required to titrate heparin drips based on PTT and must have experience with heparin gtt High flow oxygen for stable COVID patients possible but rare Charting is done in Epic; experience with Epic is preferred Phillips telemetry monitors are used, but nurses do not need to read their own strips Floating required in rotation with staff, taking full team on general units and assigned with a trained nurse if floated outside general units Charge nurse and house supervisor are present 24 / 7 RNs care for a diverse neuroscience and medical overflow patient population Two-day orientation provided with educator and preceptor, including computer and unit-specific training No scrub color requirements; tattoos must be covered and only ear piercings permitted during shifts Negative drug screen required for employment COVID vaccination is not required for this position Local candidates with a permanent address within 50 miles are eligible at a local rate First time travelers are not considered for this position Requirements Active IL RN license required at time of consideration BLS (AHA) and NIHSS certifications required Minimum 1 year experience as an RN Must have prior travel nursing experience (no first time travelers) Experience working on a dedicated neuro unit required Level 1 trauma experience required Heparin gtt titration experience required Ability to work 12-hour shifts with every other weekend and holiday rotation Must be able to float and take full assignments within competency Benefits High Pay and Bonuses Medical, Dental and Vision Insurance with Day 1 Options 401(k) Plan Weekly Payroll Deposit Free Online CEUs Generous Housing Allowance Travel and Licensure Reimbursements Non-taxed Per Diem and Subsidy Traveler Rewards and Discounts American Traveler Job ID P-624790.
