Job Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Pediatrics position requiring a CA RN license, BLS, PALS, and at least 3 years of acute pediatric nursing experience.

Responsibilities

Work in an acute hospital pediatrics unit with 35 beds and an average census of 8 patients

Patient population includes ages up to 13 years and older developmentally challenged patients

Common cases include respiratory distress, appendectomy, dehydration, DKA, seizures, and general surgeries

Nurse-to-patient ratio is 4 : 1 on both day and night shifts

12-hour day shifts with every other weekend required

Unit uses Cerner EMR system

Pediatric hospitalist is in house 24 / 7

Required to float to PICU for low acuity and Burn ICU for appropriate pediatric care

Must be first to float among staff

Orientation consists of four shifts : two in Pediatrics, one in PICU, and one in Burn ICU

Duties include administering care for pediatric patients with a wide range of acute illnesses and post-surgical needs

Charge RN does not take patients; nurse aides provided based on census

No ventilators on unit, but telemetry monitoring is present with no telemetry tech

Respiratory therapy and pharmacy available 24 / 7; no IV team on unit

Must cover two major holidays during the assignment

Navy scrubs required for this unit

Requirements

Active CA RN license in hand—pending licenses will not be accepted

Minimum of 3 years recent acute pediatric RN experience required

Current BLS and PALS certifications required

Must be able to start IVs independently and possess strong clinical skills

Experience with Cerner EMR system preferred

Must provide two professional references : one supervisor reference from within the last 12 months and one peer or supervisor reference from within the last 3 years

Copy of driver's license required for consideration

No first-time travelers will be considered
