ABOUT THE POSITION

VHB's Traffic / Highway Co-op - Providence, RI is designed to introduce students into the workforce. The program will build essential professional skills by offering opportunities for hands-on learning in a supportive yet challenging environment. The intern program is designed to round out participants' academic learning with real world experience and help them explore related areas of practice to find the best fit for their career path.

Co-op terms generally run from January - June 2026.

Our team works with public, private, and institutional clients to support a variety of projects. Our services include design of multilane highways and interchanges to the reconstruction of arterials and local roads, bridges, small intersection improvements, on- and off-street bicycle facilities, operational analysis, multimodal planning, conceptual design, parking analysis, and safety evaluations. We collaborate across our footprint with numerous other VHB groups on many of our transformative projects.

Responsibilities

Collaborate with numerous VHB staff, clients, and consultants to advance projects in a timely manner

• Assist in development of planning and engineering solutions
• Assist in data mining and visualization
• Perform analysis of data or calculations
• Perform field data collection and other on-site project support activities
• Prepare written documents, summarize information collected by others, and assemble reports
