Job Summary
The Assistant Operations Manager is responsible for supervision of all plant operations to process, ship, and transport the Company’s products in an efficient and safe manner that meets both established targets and also customer requirements.
This position oversees hourly employees and salaried employees and reports directly to the Operations Manager.
Job Responsibilities
Accomplish Manufacturing Staff Results by communicating job expectations; planning, monitoring, and appraising job results;
coaching, counseling and disciplining employees, initiating, coordinating and enforcing systems, policies and procedures.
- Manage workforce by delegating & assuring proper completion of tasks through supervisor(s) for maintaining safe & efficient operations to satisfy our customer needs
- Maintains workflow by monitoring steps of the process, monitoring personnel and resources; studying methods; implementing cost reductions;
facilitating corrections to malfunctions; initiating and fostering a spirit of cooperation within and between departments.
Coordinate production vouchers (PV’s) between sales & warehouse by evaluating priority of PV’s, scheduling processing, anticipating difficulties, etc.
to assure maximum productivity & efficiency in producing material
- Conduct regular plant & safety meetings by maintaining open communications with warehouse staff & supervisors to assure safe & efficient operations
- Maintains quality service by enforcing organizational standards. Ensures operation of equipment by calling for repairs, evaluating new equipment and techniques.
- Handle logistics, CDL requirements, and fleet management and serve as backup for dispatcher
- Schedule and run the safety committee meetings and manage safety notes entry into SafetyNet System
- Maintains safe and clean work environment by educating and directing personnel on the use of all control points, equipment and resources, maintaining compliance with established policies and procedures.
- Manage the coordination and relationship with temp agencies and the training of new temps
- Train and instruct current and new employees and / or temporary employees on job requirements and expectations, and safety as needed
- Track and record and report all accidents or incidents and any subsequent Worker's compensation reporting
- Maintains professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops and reviewing professional publication
- Prepare excel reports for HR, Operations and General Manager as requested
- Review and manage employee timekeeping and pay practices
- Regular inspection and testing of current equipment and possible repair when needed.

Qualifications
- Minimum of 3+ years warehouse experience in metals service center or related industry
- Strong computer skills including Microsoft Office Outlook and Excel
- Reliable work history
- Strong work ethic and leadership skills
- High School diploma or equivalent & 4-6 years of job-related experience
- Prior supervisory experience preferred
- Strong knowledge of material processing and warehousing
- Excellent math, organizational, and communication skills
- Ability to meet workflow requirements & shipping schedules
