Job Summary for CVOR / Surgical Assistant (not a surg tech)

- Comprehensive Stroke Center, 938 total beds, 8 CVOR beds
- Experience & Traveler Info :
- Minimum 2 years Surgical Assistant experience required
- Not recommended for first-time travelers
- Patient Population :
- Cardio and Thoracic surgeries (CABG, TAVR, valve replacements, robotic thoracic cases, generator exchanges, lead extractions, heart transplants, fem-pop bypass)
- Average 10 cases per day
- 1 : 1 patient ratio
- Role Responsibilities :
- Circulate in CVOR cases (travelers do not scrub)
- Work as part of surgical team with two RN's per case
- Independently manage all listed CVOR case types
- Must document and manage pain assessment and medication administration accurately
- Certifications & Skills :
- BLS and graduation from accredited school required
- CSFA preferred
- Proficiency with EPIC charting, Alaris, Pyxis, Davinci XI
- Strong CVOR skills across all specialties; must work independently in a fast-paced environment
- Support & Resources :
- Department Supervisor & Manager, Team Lead, 24 / 7 anesthesia and house supervisor support
- Surgical Assistant Lead (instrumentation, preference cards)
- Weekend support shared among all ORs
- Schedule & On-Call :
- Start times : 0530-0630
- On-call : Once per month (weekend 24h), possible end-of-shift call up to once / week (30 min response time)
- No scheduled floating; anesthesia techs may float
- Up to 7 days time off approved; additional time requires approval
- 2 weeks orientation provided
- Holidays : On-call only
- Adherence to fatigue policy (max 60 hours / week or 5 consecutive 12-hour shifts)
