Director Of Safety
Welsbach Electric Corp. ("Welsbach") is one of the largest commercial electrical contractors in New York City. We specialize in outdoor electrical construction and maintenance for government agencies, utilities, and private enterprises. Our headquarters are located in Queens, NY, where we maintain an extensive in-house inventory of materials, tools, and a fleet in order to provide prompt electrical maintenance services. Our field force consists of highly qualified IBEW (International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers) journeymen electricians and linemen. These employees are supported by experienced project management, estimating, engineering, accounting, and administrative personnel, who together make us one of the leading New York City electrical contracting companies.
Summary
The Director of Safety will be accountable for creating a safe, accident-free, healthy work environment and will facilitate and support the company's Safety program.
Essential Duties And Responsibilities

Preferred Education And / Or Experience
Degree or Certification in safety management or relevant field is preferred. Minimum 5 years of experience in a professional safety role; proven successful experience as a safety manager preferred. Associate / Certified Safety Professional (ASP / CSP) Preferred but not required. Knowledge of Roadworker Protection / MUTCD standards a plus. OSHA 500 certification preferred. Experience writing Health And Safety Plans (HASP's) and Job Hazard Analysis (JHA's). Deep understanding of occupational health and safety guidelines / regulations. In-depth knowledge of the construction industry, federal, state, and city environmental and safety regulations and practices. Ability to do public speaking, for safety training purposes. Must have a valid driver's license, in good standing.
Computer Skills
Must demonstrate proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, (i.e. Outlook, Word and Excel). In general, a working knowledge of project document control software is expected. Must demonstrate proficiency in electronic document filing and management.
Required Attributes
Ability to draft, proofread and distribute accurate reports and develop policies applicable to legal / industry standards. Good knowledge of data analysis and risk assessment. Excellent organizational and motivational skills are a must. Outstanding attention to detail and observation ability. Exceptional communication and interpersonal abilities especially public speaking. Must have the ability to make quick yet sound decisions. Must build positive working relationships with multiple levels of employees, management, suppliers, and customers. Must demonstrate commitment to company values.
Language Skills
Must have the demonstrated ability to effectively communicate in English, cooperate, and collaborate with multiple levels of customer, employees, unions, government agencies, vendors and suppliers, and other contractor organizations.
