Summary :
The Spray Booth Technician is responsible for preparing, operating, and maintaining spray booth equipment to apply paints, gelcoats, and coatings to automotive parts and surfaces. This role ensures high-quality finishes through proper mixing, application techniques, and adherence to safety and quality standards. Attention to detail, mechanical aptitude, and a strong understanding of refinishing processes are essential for success in this position.
Key Responsibilities :
- Prepare the spray booth and all equipment for use, including adjusting settings such as temperature, airflow, and ventilation to ensure proper operation.
- Mix gelcoats, clear coats, and paints to the correct ratios according to the SDS and manufacturer instructions. Handle all materials, solvents, and accelerants in accordance with SDS guidelines.
- Apply paint, gelcoats, clear coats, and a variety of gloss materials using various spray guns and techniques, ensuring the finished product meets specifications.
- Operate automated paint systems after receiving applicable training and ensure they are functioning as required.
- Clean and maintain spray guns, hoses, and all related spray equipment.
- Adhere to all safety protocols, including the use of proper PPE and maintenance of exhaust systems.
- Inspect all work and surfaces for defects and apply necessary corrective measures. Use both digital and manual thickness gauges to ensure adequate coverage.
Qualifications :
High School DiplomaPrevious work experience in a plant or production environment.Knowledge of automotive paint and refinishing processes.Familiarity with different spray guns and painting techniques.Experience in mixing chemicals and paints.Mechanical aptitude and problem-solving skills.Ability to work on a schedule with minimal interruptions.
