Join our dedicated team in the Surgical and Neuroscience Intensive Care Unit (SICU and Neuro ICU) where we provide specialized care to critically ill adult patients (ages 14 and older). Our unit features 30 intensive care beds with a balanced patient population divided between surgical and neurological cases.
Your role will involve caring for patients facing life-threatening conditions stemming from major surgical procedures, multi-trauma, traumatic brain injuries, strokes, seizures, sepsis, and multi-organ system failures. You will utilize your expertise in comprehensive physical assessments, intensive monitoring, ventilator management, and hemodynamic assessments.
As a nurse in our SICU / Neuro ICU, you will develop skills in :
- ICP monitoring via EVD or bolt
- Spinal drains / catheters
- Brain oxygen monitoring
- Artic Sun therapy
- Continuous EEG
- Intra-arterial catheter management
- Non-invasive cardiac output monitoring
- Mechanical ventilation and continuous renal replacement therapy
- Reconstructive flap monitoring and massive blood transfusion
In your position, you will support on-unit procedures such as :
Placement of arterial and central linesExternal ventricular drains and ICP monitorsBedside bronchoscopy and abdominal washoutsTracheostomy and PEG tube placementLumbar punctures and chest tube managementPigtail drain placementsEssential Responsibilities :
Implement physician orders, administer medications, start IVs, perform treatments, and document care as required.Order, interpret, and evaluate diagnostic tests to assess patient conditions.Assess and evaluate patient needs and responses to care.Apply sound nursing judgment in patient care management decisions.Provide primary and emergency care for occupational and non-occupational injuries and illnesses.Collaborate with the nursing team to create a comprehensive Plan of Care for all patients.Guide and direct ancillary personnel while maintaining professional nursing standards.Minimum Qualifications :
Graduate of a recognized nursing program (Diploma, Associate Degree, or Baccalaureate Degree).Current NYS Registered Nurse license.Certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) required.Thank you for considering a career with Albany Medical Center!
