Coordinates care and functions as a liaison between registration staff and clinical staff to facilitate the efficient flow of patients throughout the system. Confers with physicians regarding need, urgency, and appropriateness of visits, if needed. Reviews physician orders to assist with scheduling patients in a timely fashion.

Duties to include rooming patients, taking vitals and health history, documenting in an electronic medical record, assisting with minor procedures. Duties do not include ordering or administration of medication.

Document all patient care activities in the electronic medical record to include disposition of patient telephone calls, medication list, etc. Generates ancillary requests in practice partner and updates medicines as needed in EMR (electronic medical record).

Participates in performance improvement / research activities designed to improve patient care, and / or organizational processes.

Must receive certification through American Medical Technologist (AMT), American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA), Medical Careers Assessment (MedCA) or National Healthcareer Association (NHA) within six months of employment; one retake permissible 90 days from last exam. Current BLS required.

Physical requirements include the ability to perform job functions while standing, sitting, walking, and climbing stairs; work from elevated areas; work in confined / cramped spaces; work from kneeling positions; bend and twist at the waist; squat and perform job functions; perform gross motor activities with fingers and hands; perform firm grasping with fingers and hands; reach overhead; perform repetitive motions with hands / wrists / elbows and shoulders; use lower extremities for balance and coordination; reach in all directions; lift and carry 50 lbs. unassisted; lift / lower objects 50 lbs. from / to floor from / to 36 inches unassisted; lift from 36" to overhead 25 lbs.; exert up to 50 lbs. of force; maintain 20 / 40 vision, corrected, in one eye or with both eyes; see and recognize objects close at hand or at a distance; match or discriminate between colors; determine distance / relationship between objects; depth perception; maintain hearing acuity, with correction; perform gross motor functions with frequent fine motor movements; deal effectively with stressful situations; work rotating shifts; work overtime as required; work in a latex safe environment; maintain tactile sensory functions; maintain good olfactory sensory function; and be qualified physically for respirator use, initially and as required.
