JOB SUMMARY

The Neag School of Education seeks candidates for the position of Academic Advisor. Under the direction of the Assistant Dean and Certification Officer, the academic advisor works collaboratively with faculty and staff to advise teacher education and undergraduate sport management students. The Academic Advisor will assess student needs, develop, coordinate, and implement advising, orientation, support and intervention strategies, monitor academic progress, and implement effective outreach and recruitment initiatives.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Advises students on admission, academic programs, selection of courses and plans of study, program and university policies, educational and career goals, and related matters.
• Monitors undergraduate student academic progress and works closely with faculty, staff, and other university offices to identify and resolve academic challenges. Makes decisions regarding exemptions, waivers, auditing of student degrees, approval of plans of study, and other academic matters.
• Coordinates academic support initiatives and works with students experiencing academic challenges to develop strategies to improve academic standing and support their success.
• Acts as a liaison to faculty, schools and colleges, other University offices, and regional campuses to help interpret academic and admissions policies and processes.
• Develops, coordinates and participates in prospective student engagement and recruitment strategies and activities; travels to UConn regional campuses, community colleges, and K-12 schools and attendance at weekend and evening activities
• Creates, maintains, and appropriately updates files, records, and student documentation in Nexus and related databases.
• Reviews transcripts for prospective TCPCG students.
• Performs other related duties as assigned.
