Summary :
Pantry and Warehouse Volunteers play a critical role in supporting Stanly Community Christian Ministry's (SCCM) food distribution efforts. Volunteers assist in either the food pantry, where clients select their food items, or the warehouse, where food donations are received, sorted, and distributed. These roles involve physical tasks, client interaction, and ensuring the overall cleanliness and organization of the pantry and warehouse.
Pantry Volunteer Responsibilities :
Client Assistance :
Assist clients with shopping from the pantry or prepackage their food selections upon request.
- Ensure that each client's food is properly selected, weighed, and recorded at the checkout stations.
- Provide assistance to clients who need help retrieving food from shelves or carrying items to their vehicles. (Typical weights range from 25-75lbs.)
Pantry Organization and Maintenance :
Restock pantry shelves daily to ensure a consistent supply of items for clients.
Maintain cleanliness and organization in the pantry by regularly cleaning shelves, floors, and food areas.Warehouse Volunteer Responsibilities :
Receiving Donations :
Greet donors entering the warehouse and assist with unloading food donations.
Weigh and log each donation, ensuring accurate records are maintained.Place donations on tables for sorting and shelving.Warehouse Operations :
Use pallet jacks, hand trucks, and carts to move food and supplies throughout the warehouse.
Sort and pack food for distribution to the pantry and SCCM’s Community Tables program.Regularly enter freezers and coolers to store or retrieve items.Sweep floors and remove trash daily to maintain a clean and safe environment.Physical Requirements :
Frequent lifting of boxes and food items weighing between 25-75lbs.
Frequent walking and physical activity within the warehouse, pantry, and coolers.Skills & Qualifications :
Ability to lift and carry up to 75lbs.Comfortable with frequent walking and physical tasks.Strong interpersonal skills for assisting clients and interacting with donors.Basic organizational skills for sorting and shelving donations.Team-oriented attitude with a commitment to maintaining a clean and efficient environment.Training : Volunteers will receive on-site training for handling food, operating equipment, and safety protocols.
