Description / Comment : Basic Purpose :
This position will be responsible for providing technical oversight and supervision of the non-exempt laboratory personnel on multiple shifts. This position is responsible for directing the activities and workflow in the designated area with consideration of other lab areas and interdepartmental needs.
Duties and Responsibilities :
1 Must demonstrate proficiency in all principal duties of a Forensic Scientist I, II, and III as well as a group lead.
2 Oversees staff and activities of the department, distributes / assigns work, and determines priorities, and schedules non-routine procedures.
3 Performs personnel related functions (hiring, training, continuing education, disciplinary action, terminations, etc). Resolves work related problems with staff and conduct performance appraisals as required.
4 Initiates quality-control measures and monitors quality of work for adherence to laboratory standards.
5 Performs duties of forensic scientists as necessitated by absence or peak workload.
6 Responsible for planning and implementation of new instruments, methods, corrective actions, SOP updates.
7 Prepare staff for Federal, CAP and State inspections.
8 Responsible for departments' annual competency testing process and documentation.
9 Interacts in a professional manner with inter-departmental teams and groups. Participates in leadership meetings with laboratory management.
10 Frequent communications across all shifts with the department staff is required.
11 Performs other duties as directed by managers, directors and / or RPs.

Education Required :
Bachelor of Science or Art degree in medical technology, biological science or related field; BS / BA degrees in non-related field must include a minimum sixteen (16) semester hours in Chemistry, sixteen (16) semester hours in Biology, and three (3) semester hours of Mathematics; or as required by applicable regulations

Offer of Employment Process
When making any offer of employment to a successful candidate, Mindlance staff is responsible to the hiring party to inform the candidate of the client's intent to extend a contingent offer of employment. Upon the successful completion of the background check and drug screen, the submission of all Mindlance paperwork along with any client specific documents the associate will be cleared for their assignment. Once the start instructions are received, which is typically the Friday prior to the candidate's start date the associate will receive starting instructions from the account management team.
