The RN performs the full nursing process—assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation—to ensure safe and therapeutic patient care. The role operates within the standards of the ANA Scope and Standards of Practice , ANA Code of Ethics , and the California Nurse Practice Act as defined by the Board of Registered Nursing, State of California . Duties and Responsibilities : Deliver compassionate, patient-centered care by fostering trust and supporting holistic healing (mind, body, and spirit). Collect and document patient data accurately and according to established protocols. Interpret assessment findings to identify physiological and psychosocial risk factors, and report variances from normal parameters. Collaborate with patients, families, and interdisciplinary teams to create and implement individualized care plans. Use sound judgment and clinical expertise to prioritize nursing interventions. Formulate nursing diagnoses, evaluate outcomes, and revise care plans as needed. Recognize and respond quickly to changes in patient status and activate emergency procedures when appropriate. Document nursing care in accordance with hospital policy and professional standards. Coordinate patient care with physicians, nurses, and Advanced Practice Providers. Maintain effective communication and collaboration within the care team. Ensure quality of care through adherence to evidence-based practices and therapeutic standards. Follow infection control, medication administration, and controlled substance policies. Participate in meetings, professional governance councils, and nursing recognition or well-being initiatives. Complete required competencies, training, and continuing education. Adhere to all hospital-approved policies and RN scope of practice standards. Uphold the ANA Code of Ethics , ANA Scope and Standards of Practice , and KMC Professional Practice Model. Monitor personal and team practices for compliance with safety and quality standards. Demonstrate clinical expertise in caring for diverse patient populations within Kern Medical facilities. Required Skills and Qualifications : Minimum 3 years of nursing experience . Proficiency in Cerner EMR . Valid and unrestricted California RN License . Advanced NRP certification. AWHONN Advanced Fetal Heart Monitoring (FHM) certification. AWHONN Maternal Fetal Triage Index (MFTI) certification. Current American Heart Association (AHA) certifications : Basic Life Support (BLS) Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) Must meet all Kern Medical Center health and compliance requirements . Depending on assignment, may be required to maintain additional certificates of competency. Strong knowledge of advanced nursing theory, clinical techniques, medical terminology, and pharmacology.
