About The Position

Job Title : Registered Nurse

Experience : Minimum of 2 years of recent Med / Surg experience

License : Must have a valid RN license

Certifications : Must have ACLS, BLS, and PALS certifications from the American Heart Association

Must-Have : Must attach license and certifications to submission

Description :

Med / Surg Nurses provide direct and individualized nursing care to patients based on the application of scientific nursing principles.

In addition to general nursing care, responsibilities of Med / Surg Nurses include consults and coordination with health care team members to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate patient care plans.

They prepare and administer medications (orally, subcutaneously, through an IV) and record prescribed medications.

They report adverse reactions to medications or treatments in accordance with the policy regarding the administration of medications by a licensed registered nurse.

They educate patients on surgical procedures.

They record patients' medical information and vital signs.

They monitor and adjust specialized equipment used on patients and interpret and record electronic displays.

They initiate corrective action whenever the patient displays adverse symptomatology.

They provide bedside care for a wide variety of medical patients, including pre- and post-surgery patients.

They initiate patient education plans as prescribed by physicians.

They teach patients and significant others how to manage their illness or injury by explaining post-treatment home care needs.

They change dressings, insert catheters, and start IVs.

They prepare equipment and aid physicians during examination and treatment of patients.

They respond to life-saving situations based upon nursing standards and protocol.

They participate in discharge planning.

They utilize time management skills.

They record all care information concisely, accurately, and completely in a timely manner in the appropriate format and on the appropriate forms.

They perform other position-related duties as assigned depending on the assignment setting.
