The Hampton-Newport News Community Services Board is seeking a passionate and dedicated Part-Time Therapeutic Mentor to support youth in our community. In this rewarding role, you will provide both in-home and out-of-home educational support, behavioral interventions, training, and crisis management services to children and adolescents living with moderate to severe emotional challenges, developmental disabilities, or substance use disorders, and their families.

What it's like to be a Therapeutic Mentor at Therapeutic Mentor
As a Part-Time Therapeutic Mentor with the Hampton-Newport News Community Services Board, you will play a vital role in supporting children and adolescents living with moderate to severe emotional disturbances, developmental disabilities, or substance use challenges. In this dynamic position, you will provide in-home and out-of-home education, behavioral interventions, and crisis management services to promote growth across academic, social, and independent living skills. Key responsibilities will include : crisis intervention and behavioral support, participation in treatment planning, outreach and service provider linkage, and positive role modeling to guide and inspire youth.
What we're looking for in a Therapeutic Mentor
To thrive as a Part-Time Therapeutic Mentor at the Hampton-Newport News Community Services Board, candidates should hold a bachelor's degree in a human services field-such as Social Work, Psychology, Sociology, or Counseling, and have at least one year of clinical experience supporting emotionally troubled children and their families. Alternatively, applicants with five years of relevant clinical experience may also be considered. Success in this role requires strong communication skills, empathy, and a solid understanding of behavioral interventions for youth with emotional disturbances and intellectual or developmental disabilities. Proficiency in crisis management, behavioral analysis, and accurate documentation is essential, as is a commitment to upholding client confidentiality. A valid Virginia driver's license is necessary to provide both in-home and out-of-home services. Most importantly, candidates should be dedicated to fostering self-esteem and personal growth in the youth they mentor.
